Sam Grizzled

With 9,000 in the pot by the turn of the {A-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {K-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} board, Sam Grizzle stuck in his last but Doyle Brunson was having none of it and made the call.

Grizzle: {K-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds}
Brunson: {A-Spades} {Q-Hearts}

River: a very bricky {8-Hearts}

Brunson moves on up to 28,500, just under his starting stack.

On Yer Boat, Caro

A short stacked Mike Caro raised and was called by both blinds, Barny Boatman in the big. All three players checked the {Q-Spades} {9-Hearts} {4-Clubs} flop, and come the {10-Hearts} turn Caro stuck his last 1,000 in. Boatman made the call, and that was the end of Caro.

Caro: {A-Hearts} {7-Diamonds}
Boatman: {10-Diamonds} {7-Hearts}

River: a not terribly helpful but rather pretty {7-Clubs}

Boatman is up to a commanding 54,000.

Oppenheim Causing Some Controversy

Our attention was grabbed by the table of Nick Schulman after he'd called the floor to the table to call the clock on David Oppenheim. Not an usual occurrence for a poker tournament...perhaps a little strange for a limit event...but what about preflop?

Well that's the situation that we found, after a raise, a reraise and a call before the action reached Oppenheim in the small blind who was clearly distressed by the action, before the community cards had even been dealt.

Before Oppenheim's one minute had expired he tossed out the call. He tried his best to win the pot with a check-raise on the flop before being raised by Todd Brunson on the turn, but Oppenheim gave up on the river with the board reading {8-Spades}{5-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}.

"I was going to slowroll him too..." laughed Brunson as he raked in the pot.

Another interesting side note from this table is that currently there are four separate players all getting massages! That has to be some sort of record?

Sower Grapes for Mortensen

Mike Sowers raised in mid position and Carlos Mortensen reraised behind; a call and a flop.

Flop: {3-Clubs} {8-Hearts} {6-Hearts}

Sowers check-called a bet from Mortensen and they proceeded.

Turn: {Q-Clubs}

Sowers checked again and Mortensen bet again, but this time Sowers raised. Mortensen reraised. Sowers re-reraised. Call. Interesting...

River: {K-Clubs}

Sowers bet out this time and Mortensen called -- but mucked when Sowers turned over pocket {6-Spades} {6-Diamonds}.

Sowers up to the heady heights of 43,000; Mortensen to the below-average pit of sadness that is actually a still pretty respectable 26,500.

Justin "BoostedJ" Smith
Justin "BoostedJ" Smith
Justin "BoostedJ" Smith was on the verge of elimination after a monstrous pot was capped four-ways on the flop, before Smith found his last chips all in on the turn.

The board read {Q-Spades}{7-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} and Smith tabled {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} for the overpair but his lone opponent showed {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} for trip queens, leaving Smith in trouble.

That is, until the {K-Spades} dropped down from the heavens to give Smith a full house and the pot. For those who think Limit is a slow game, that one card has taken Smith from potential extinction to a competitive 21,000 chips.

Beer Not Having Desired Effect on Nguyen

With the board reading {10-Hearts} {7-Spades} {6-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {3-Clubs}, Scotty Nguyen and Hasan Habib went raisey-crazy -- Nguyen bet, Habib raised, Nguyen reraised and then called the four bet from Habib. Habib turned over pocket tens for a full house, and Nguyen mucked, laughed and returned to his beer.

Nguyen: down to 32,000
Habib: up to 23,000

Hellmuth Runs Big Slick Into Set

Marco Johnson raised to 1,200 from under the gun before Phil Hellmuth raised to 1,800 from middle position. Johnson flat-called and they took a flop of {9-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}.

Johnson checked and Hellmuth bet 600. Johnson called and the {3-Clubs} landed on the turn. Johnson checked and Hellmuth bet. Johnson then put in the check-raise and Hellmuth called.

Johnson then bet the river in the dark before the {Q-Spades} peeled off. Hellmuth made the call but Johnson revealed {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for a set to take the pot. Hellmuth flashed {A-?}{K-?} for top pair but it was no good as he slips to 25,500.

Nguyen for the Win

Nguyen - Red Bull and water now replaced with beer
Nguyen - Red Bull and water now replaced with beer
Hurrah! This tournament is about to get approximately 200% more fun, as over on the Table Of Ultimate Doom Scotty Nguyen has started drinking. It's only a matter of time before he buys a round for the whole table, and then all hell will break loose. Or so we hope.
