Event 33 - $10,000 World Championship Limit Hold'em

Day 2 Completed

Day 2 Wraps Up - Hsiung Leads Chase For Limit Hold'em Gold

That brings an end to our coverage of Day 2 of the $10,000 Limit Hold'em World Championship. It was a day that ebbed and flowed, with some periods of inactivity followed by hasty eliminations. We burst through the money bubble late in the evening and were able to reach our final twelve players who will return to duke it out tomorrow for the coveted gold bracelet.

In such a stacked field we were always going to be lucky enough to find ourselves with a quality final table, as the likes of Jennifer Harman, Greg Mueller, Chad Brown, Pat Pezzin, Matt Glantz and Daniel Alaei will all return for final day action. However the man they'll have one eye on will be likely overnight chip leader, Kenny Hsiung who surged late to amass an impressive 831,000 chips.

Join us tomorrow from 1pm as we bring this event to an exciting conclusion. See you then!

Harman Doubles Again

Jennifer Harman opened the action with a raise from under the gun before Kenny Hsiung popped it up from the small blind. Harman re-raised and Hsiung just called.

Harman put her last 12,000 all in, in the dark, out of turn, before the flop was spread {6-Spades}{9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}.

Hsiung probably had to call anyway, but it made it easier that he'd flopped top pair with his {A-Diamonds}{9-Spades}. However Harman revealed {J-Spades}{J-Clubs} for the overpair and the lead.

The turn was the {2-Clubs} and river the {10-Clubs} and Harman more than doubles up to the delight of her fans on the rail.

"Maybe I can win this?" laughed Harman as she now sits with a more respectable 125,000 chips.

Mark Teltscher Eliminated in 13th Place ($32,693)

Telt it to the judge
Telt it to the judge
Teltscher raised in early position and Chad Brown called from the big blind to see an {A-Spades} {A-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} flop, which they both checked.

The turn was the {2-Diamonds} and Brown checked; when Teltscher bet, Brown raised, and a call later they were at the river.

The river was the {10-Diamonds} and Brown check-raised again -- and now Teltscher, staring at the board like he was staring into the void, passed, leaving himself just 20,000 behind. Wow.

The next hand Teltscher moved all in under the gun and Michiel Brummelhuis called behind. Chad Brown called from the small blind too, only for Matt Hawrilenko to reraise from the big blind. Two callers, and a flop.

Flop: {3-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {10-Clubs}

Brown checked, Hawrilenko bet, and both Brummelhuis and Brown called.

Turn: {10-Hearts}

Again Brown checked to Hawrilenko who bet and Brummelhuis called, but this time Brown raised. A call from Hawrilenko, and a call from Brummelhuis.

River: {4-Clubs}

Now Brown bet out and Hawrilenko puffed out his cheeks and directed a death stare at the the impassive Brown. He called, as did Brummelhuis.

And strangely for someone who'd been so passive, Brummelhuis was holding the winning hand. He tabled {A-Clubs} {8-Clubs} for a flush and both his opponents mucked. Teltscher meanwhile was holding absolutely nothing in the form of {7-Hearts} {8-Diamonds}, and busts out in unlucky 13th.

Harman Not Done With Yet

Jennifer Harman raised from the button and found herself all in preflop against Greg Mueller who took a shot to knock out Harman with a gambling call from from the big blind.

Harman: {J-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Mueller: {10-Hearts}{5-Hearts}

The board ran out {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} to pair up Harman to give her the double up to about 45,000 -- possibly just enough to squeak her way into Day 3?

Shamseddin Wins Bizarre Pot From Harman

An intriguing hand has just gone down that has left Jennifer Harman on the verge of elimination.

Greg Mueller started the action with a raise from early position. Kenny Hsiung then reraised on the button before Soheil Shamseddin popped it up again from the small blind. The action was then with Jennifer Harman in the big blind who deliberated before capping the action!

Knowing how solid Harman is, Mueller and Hsiung insta-folded with Shamseddin sticking around to fight for the already monster pot.

You sensed the {A-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop was going to produce some action. Shamseddin led with a confident bet but Harman raised. Shamseddin then reraised again and Harman just flat-called.

The turn was another interesting card in the {K-Spades}. When Shamseddin fired out again we were expecting a big showdown as Harman only had 40,000 chips behind. However after many minutes of cutting down her chips in deliberation she tossed her cards into the muck to the surprise of the gallery.

As the pot was shipped to Shamseddin the rail egged him on to "show the bluff", and so he obliged, showing one card - the {J-Clubs}!

Harman Doubles Up, Receives Love From Field and Rail Alike

Harman - wrote the book on this

A very lovely moment for Jennifer Harman as she doubled up to 130,000.

She raised under the gun and Soheil Shamseddin called from the big blind. He check-raised the {Q-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} flop and she called, and then Harman bet all in on the {A-Diamonds} turn. He called, she hit, and she doubled.

Harman: {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} for top pair and a flush draw
Shamseddin: {Q-Clubs} {8-Clubs} for two pair

River: a flushalicious {4-Diamonds}

There was some applause from the rail. Maria Ho piped up that Ms. Harman had written the chapter on Limit Hold'em in Super System 2, and that she had read it. "So did I," said Greg Mueller, "And that's why I'm here." Heartwarming indeed.

Hard Times for Harman

Jennifer Harman has dropped some chips to Pat Pezzin and is down to just 65,000.

She raised from the cutoff and Pezzin called in the big blind. Both checked the {A-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {2-Clubs} flop and Pezzin bet out on the {5-Clubs} turn; Harman called and they proceeded.

Both checked the {10-Hearts} river and Pezzin turned over {A-Hearts} {J-Clubs}. Harman just mucked and is now in a predicament. Pezzin is rather more comfortable on 350,000.

Alaei Wins Showdown With King-High

Daniel Alaei raised from middle position before Matt Glantz re-popped it from the cutoff. Alaei called and they took a flop of {6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}. Alaei checked, Glantz bet and Alaei made the call.

On the {2-Spades} turn the action was similar with Alaei checking and then calling the bet from Glantz. The river was the {8-Diamonds} and both players checked.

Alaei showed just king-high with his {K-Spades}{7-Spades} but Glantz couldn't beat it as he tossed his cards into the muck! As we get short-handed the aggression is certainly kicking in! Alaei is at 330,000 with Glantz back down to 240,000.
