Recent Eliminations

John Juanda - out
John Juanda - out
Two recent eliminations at the hand of "Miami" John Cernuto: Team Full Tilters John Juanda and Erick Lindgren. Juanda was very short-stacked and unable to avoid Cernuto's Broadway straight. Lindgren made a stand with split kings, {K-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} / {K-Spades} at the same time that Cernuto was dealt buried aces, {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} / {9-Clubs}. Each player made trips on sixth street, but neither filled up. As a result Cernuto's three aces were the best hand and Lindgren is out.

Cernuto has about 100,000.

Negreanu Gives Corkins Respect

Negreanu still scrapping.
Negreanu still scrapping.
A few tables away from Eric Brooks, Daniel Negreanu found himself in a similar situation. He led out sixth street with the best board, (X-X) / {Q-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {7-Spades}, only to see his lone opponent -- Hoyt Corkins -- raise (X-X) / {10-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {6-Diamonds}.

Negreanu studied Corkins' board. "Eight-nine?" he asked. Corkins just chomped on his trademark cigar. Whatever it was he did, it was enough for Negreanu to convince himself to fold.

Checking in on the Champ, Day 2

Eric Brooks is still plugging away in today's field. He recently had to surrender a pot on the river. He had led out on sixth street with (X-X) / {K-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {7-Hearts} {6-Spades}, a bet that his opponent raised with (X-X) / {2-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {4-Hearts}. Brooks called on sixth but check-folded to a bet on the river.

"Ace-clubs five-clubs," Brooks' opponent said, flashing those cards in the hole for a five-high straight. "It was that or rolled up." Brooks just nodded. He's on a roughly average stack, with about 60,000 in chips.

Back to the Fairway

No bracelet for Ivey yet.
No bracelet for Ivey yet.
Soheil Shamseddin completed with the {K-Diamonds}, and Phil Ivey moved all in for his final 2,400 chips with the {4-Clubs} showing. Shamseddin put in the extra 900 to put Ivey at risk. In the end, Ivey's board ran out ({4-Hearts} {K-Hearts}) / {4-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {9-Clubs} / {A-Hearts}, giving him nines up. Unfortunately for him, Shamseddin started with buried sixes and found a third just like it on fifth street. His board ran down ({6-Spades} {6-Hearts}) / {K-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} / (X), and his triple sixes were enough to send Ivey home (or back to the golf course).

King Was Enough

Karle Wilson completed from right next to the bring-in player. Johnny Chan was the lone caller, heads up the rest of the way.

Wilson: (X-X) / {10-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {A-Diamonds} {4-Spades} / (X)
Chan: (X-X) / {8-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} / (X)

On fourth and fifth streets, Wilson was the bettor, and Chan called both times. The two men check-checked sixth and seventh streets.

Wilson said, "Kings," as he turned over {Q-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}. "Oh, I got diamonds!" he just then realized. "You got diamonds?" asked Chan. "King was enough. I was looking for a club."

After that exchange, Wilson has been bumped up to 39,000, slipping Chan down to 48,000.
