Filippi Filing for the Exit

Amnon Filippi - eliminated
Amnon Filippi - eliminated

Kirk Morrison started things off on third street by completing. Alan Boston looked at Morrison on his right and Amnon Filippi on his left before folding. Filippi raised folding everyone else out of the hand. He and Morrison then got enough chips in the middle to put Filippi all in.

Filippi was drawing with buried nines and an ace against Morrison's buried kings and ten. By sixth street Morrison made kings and sixes, leaving Filippi with a squeeze only to a nine at the river.

"Four across," said Filippi. But it wasn't a nine. He drew a ten and was busted from the tournament.

"You guys had me squeezed good. I had 10-J-Q. If you had more chips I would have gambled," noted Boston after the hand.

Dan Heimiller offered some solace to Filippi. "You can call [Morrison] a cock with no penalty. Just say you were reading his hat." Morrison is indeed wearing a hat with a picture of a rooster on it.

Checking in on the Team

As we move into the last level of the night, the fortunes of players are starting to become a little clearer. Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu has more than doubled his starting stack and seems to be playing well at his table. His fellow Team PokerStars Pro Barry Greenstein has had less fortune and is struggling to stay afloat. Greenstein, at least is still in the tournament. That's better than Geg Raymer and Chad Brown, both of whom have already been eliminated.

Brown's elimination was particularly unfortunate. He was all in by fourth street with {k-Clubs} {k-Diamonds} / {q-Hearts} {j-Spades}. Brown's opponent, however had started {a-Clubs} {a-Diamonds} / {j-Clubs} {5-Hearts}. Brown improved to kings and jacks by the river, but his opponent made aces and threes on sixth street to take a hammer-lock on the hand.

Deuce Costs Mizrachi $200

Michael Mizrachi hadn't seen a low card in a while. In fact, according to his table, he hadn't had to pay the bring in the entire night. It must have boosted his confidence, because he soon offered Justin Smith 15:1 odds that "I don't get dealt the low card tonight." The two soon agreed to put up Mizrachi's $200 to Smith's $3,000.

It certainly didn't take too long to settle the bet. On the very next hand the dealer delivered a {2-} to Mizrachi. It's ok though, after his win in the Players' Championship, Mizrachi is rolled to lose a few $200 prop bets.

Landfish Tags Morrison

Morrison: (X) (X) / {8-Hearts} {8-Spades} {4-Hearts} {6-Hearts} / (X)
Landfish: (X) (X) / {q-Spades} {q-Hearts} {2-Spades} {a-Hearts} / (X)

Kirk Morrison was the hard-luck story of the $50,000 Poker Player's Championship, going out on a hand where he bricked just about the biggest possible draw he could have. Things aren't getting any easier for him here in the $10,000 Stud Championship.

Morrison completed third street and was called by Steven Landfish. Both players made open pairs on fourth street; Landfish's queens were ahead of Morrison's eights. Landfish bet and Morrison called.

Both players then checked fifth street. When Landfish caught an ace on sixth, he bet there and then bet again on the rivr. Morrison called both times, but couldn't beat Landfish's queens ful, {j-Diamonds} {q-Diamonds} {j-Clubs}. "Nice hand, man," said Morrison.

Morrison is floundering with 11,000. Landfish is up to 53,000.

"Two Sets of Trips" for Harman

D'Agostino: (X) (X) / {j-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {j-Clubs} {3-Clubs} / (X)
Harman: (X) (X) / {7-Clubs} {7-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {10-Spades} / (X)

Jen Harman mentioned earlier how everyone at her table was moaning when they won a pot, rather than when they lost one. Harman was quite silent after winning a pot against John D'Agostino. D'Agostino completed the action on third street, with only Harman calling. Harman double-bet her open pair on fourth but couldn't shake D'Agostino.

On fifth street, D'Agostino made an open pair of his own. His bet was quickly raised by Harman. D'Agostino called there, then check-called on sixth street. Down the river, D'Agostino checked one last time. Harman squeezed her river card, then flipped open all of her hole cards -- {7-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} {8-Hearts}. "Two sets of trips," she said. Her full house, eights full of sevens, was the winner.

So Much for Forrest's Un-elimination

We passed by Ted Forrest's old table and noticed his seat was empty. Keith Sexton doesn't look any happier than he did a few hours ago when Sexton would have knocked Forrest out but for dealer error, but at least the dealer error won't impact the final outcome of the tournament.

Sexton has about 35,000.

Grinder Breaks Katchalov

We're not sure if its some run-good leftover from last weeks' Players' Championship, but Michael Mizrachi picked up a set of aces in about as great a place as one could get them - when Eugene Katchalov was trying to ride three kings into a double up.

Eugene Katchalov: {k-Hearts} {k-Hearts} / {k-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {8-Clubs} / (X)
Michael Mizrachi: {a-Clubs} {a-Diamonds} / {4-Spades} {3-Spades} {a-Spades} {10-Hearts} / {2-Spades}
