Contrasting Fortunes

Michael Mizrachi is fresh off his win in Event 2, the $50,000 Poker Player's Championship, and is off to another good start in this event. He has about 105,000 in chips, which may be a tournament-leading stack at this point of the proceedings. At the same table is multiple bracelet winner Erik Seidel. Seidel is down to just 6,000 chips. It doesn't take much imagination to guess where Seidel's chips have gone.

George Lind Hanging Around

George Lind has an incredible online resume, most recently taking down PokerStar's Player of the Series award during the Spring Championship of Online Poker. So far, though, he's been unable to translate that success into the offline poker scene. The PokerStars Team Pro is currently nursing a short stack, waiting for a prime opportunity to collect some more chips.

Rheem at 303

Mueller: (X) (X) / {q-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {j-Clubs} {4-Hearts} / (X)
Opponent: (X) (X) / {j-Spades} {3-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} / (X)

Chino Rheem is making his presence known at Greg Mueller's table. He approached as Mueller and another player were involved in a pot. His approach prompted Phil Ivey to say, "Don't worry about that 100 you beat me out of."

"Did you need it?" Rheem asked.

"That's not the point."

"I needed it more than you," said Rheem.

"If I was worried about that I'd quit playing poker," said Ivey.

Meanwhile, Mueller had bet sixth street and was called. He bet again at the river and was called again.

"Two pair," said Mueller. His oponent opened two eights in the hole for trip eights. Mueller rapped the felt, then took some ribbing from Rheem about his play in the hand. He then noticed Ylon Schwartz at the table.

"What's up, my fellow November Niner? Where you been? Sipping drinks on the beach?"

Juanda's Out of Luck

John Juanda - eliminated
John Juanda - eliminated

Juanda: {a-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} / {6-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {k-Spades} {3-Clubs} / {7-Hearts}
Amaral: {a-Spades} {a-Clubs} / {7-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} {k-Hearts} / {10-Clubs}

A very short-stacked John Juanda got all in on third street with an ace and three diamonds. Unfortunately for Juanda, Chris Amaral had two of the other three aces. Juanda was never able to improve to anything better than a pair of treys. He's out.

Amaral is up to 30,000.

Kostritsyn Calls His Way to a Win

Alexander Kostritsyn: {a-Diamonds} {k-Diamonds} / {8-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {a-Spades} {3-Diamonds} / (X)
Andrew Black: {a-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} / {2-Spades} {9-Spades} {10-Spades} {k-Clubs} / (X)

Alexander Kostritsyn didn't do anything other than call his way through six rounds of betting on this last hand, but it was good enough to win the pot against Black. We didn't catch the last cards dealt out, but they were better than Black's, as the Irishman mucked his cards and gave up the pot.

Harman Fills Up

Harman: (X) (X) / {7-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {4-Hearts} / (X)
Opponent: (X) (X) / {9-Diamonds} {q-Diamonds} {a-Diamonds} {a-Hearts} / (X)

At the river, Jen Harman's opponent led with his open aces. Harman raised, then stared silently at the felt. Her opponent thought it over a long time before calling. Harman opened a full house with {4-} {5-} {7-}. Harman's got about 40,000 now.

Recent Eliminations

Annie Duke has gone missing. In a field of old men, it's hard to miss a woman. Duke's table hasn't broken and her seat is empty, so we can only assume she's out.

Kirk Morrison has a grin on hi face, but his chip stack is one of the shortest in the tournament right now, with about only 6,000.

Buchanan Takes Mosseri Through Six Streets

Shawn Buchanan: (X) (X) / {3-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {a-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} / (X)
Abe Mosseri: (X) (X) / {7-Diamonds} {j-Spades} {10-Clubs} {6-Clubs} / (X)

With the {3-Hearts} showing, Mosseri, completed on third street and called Buchanan's raise. Mosseri would go on to call bets on fourth and fifth street before the pair decided to check their way through sixth street. Mosseri had no more call left in him on seventh street and folded to Buchanan's bet.
