Team PokerStars Pro turned out in force today. While more players could be on their way, two teams are in the lead for pro turnout. Team Canada is represented by Daniel Negreanu, Pat Pezzin, and Ahn Van Nguyen. Team Netherlands gets the gold with four members though. Lex Veldhuis, Noah Boeken, Joep van den Bijgaart, and Marcel Luske are already making waves out there. Andre Akkari is pulling all the weight for Team Brazil, Jose Ignacio Barbero's got Team Argentina's fate in his hands, Gavin Griffin is carrying Team USA, and Bill Chen's got it covered for Friends of PokerStars.
In the spirit of adding competition where none is needed, we'll keep you updated on the teams' combined stacks as the day goes on.
He final tabled this event last year, coming in 4th earning $54,182, and he also final tabled the $10,000 World Championship Limit Hold'em event in 2008 finishing 3rd for $194,674.
Hang is a tad above starting stack today after flopping a pair of deuces and betting every street. The board paired on the turn, and after the river looked it like . Hang rolled over after his opponent called him on the river and was awarded the pot.
Eric "EFro" Froehlich raised preflop and was called by Svetlana Gromenkova in the big blind. The flop fell and Gromenkova check-raised Froehlich. He called.
The turn was the and this time Gromenkova led. Froehlich folded, and Gromenkova chipped up to 6,500.
No fear for EFro though, he still has 7,000 chips.
Frank Kassela just came in and took his seat next to Maria Ho. For those of you not familiar with Mr. Kassela, check out our coverage of last night's $10k Stud Hi-Low Championship here. Frank won his first bracelet last night around 4:30 in the morning. But he's already back to the grind and looking remarkably rested and understandably chipper this afternoon.
After getting two bets in against Lex Veldhuis preflop, the player first to act checked an flop. Veldhuis bet, and his opponent raised. Lex flatted. Same story on the turn. The player check-raised for a second time, and RaSZi called. The river brought the , and this time, Veldhuis' opponent bet out. Lex called but could do nothing but muck when the player showed for top boat. Veldhuis is down to 3,800.
Richard "quietlion" Brodie is off to a fast start in Event #18, he's already chipped up to 8,000.
Brodie check called every street on a board and his opponent rolled over for just ace-high. Brodie showed for a winning pair of eights and scooped the pot.
It would be an understatement to say that Greg "FBT" Mueller dominated limit hold'em events during last year's World Series of Poker.
He took down the $10,000 World Championship Event for $460,841 only to win the $1,500 Limit Hold'em Shootout eleven days later. He pulled in $194,909 for that victory.
Mueller is in the field today, sitting at Table 33. He didn't cash in the first Limit Hold'em event this year but is surely looking for a deep run here in Event #18 and perhaps limit hold'em bracelet number three.
