Smurfit Shortened

A player open-shoved for his last 5,200, and Alan Smurfit called in the hijack. It folded around to showdown, and it was time for a race. Smurfit's {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} was up against his opponent's {3-Spades}{3-Diamonds}. The board fell {k-Hearts}{j-Spades}{10-Spades}{5-Hearts}...{3-Clubs}. The other player spiked a set on the river to double up, leaving Smurfit with only 8,500.

Tolbert Saved by the River

John Tolbert checked a {q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} flop, and a player in middle position bet 2,300. The third player in the hand flat called, and with the action back on him, Tolber check-raised to 7,000. The original bettor called, and the other player got out of the way. The {4-Diamonds} on the turn completed a flush draw, and Tolbert bet out 10,000. His opponent moved all in, and Tolbert called for his remaining 52,900. Tolbert was up against {j-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for the jack-high flush. And Tolbert's hand was a surprise to all - {4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. His pair of fours was no good. Until the {4-Hearts} on the river, that his. With his miracle full house, Tolbert moved up to 135,000. Sometimes, bad reads (or clairvoyance) really pay off.

King Herman

Herman Eisele is now our chip leader after sending another opponent over to the cashier. There was a bet and a call on the {3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{10-Hearts} flop, before Eisele's opponent moved all in on the {6-Clubs} turn. Eisele made the call with {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs} and it was good against his opponent's {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}.

The river bricked the {Q-Spades} and Eisele now sits at 142,000 chips.

Frank Chips Up

Dan Frank is up to 36,500 thanks to a recent pot that he recalled to one of our reporters on the floor.

With an early position limper, Frank made it 3,600 to go in middle position. His opponent made the call and they saw a {A-}{10-}{8-} two heart flop.

Frank bet 5,400 and his opponent made the call. The turn was another ace and both players checked to see a {4-} brick on the river. Frank fired 5,200 and his opponent looked him up with pocket nines, but Frank tabled {A-}{J-} to take it down.

Kelly Gets a KO

Kevin Kelly raised to 2,700, and the cutoff moved all in. Kelly called to see that his {a-Spades}{j-Hearts} was ahead of his opponent's {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. The board came {j-Clubs}{7-Spades}{2-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs}, and Kelly moved up to 76,000 and reduced the field by one.

"I knew I was behind!"

Josh Norris opened the action with a raise to 2,600 from early position and found a lone caller in the big blind.

They saw a {3-Clubs}{7-Spades}{A-Hearts} flop and the big blind checked to Norris who fired 3,700. The big blind then check-raised to 10,000 before Norris moved all in. The big blind let it go and claimed to have folded ace-queen saying, "I knew I was behind!"

Norris is up to 88,000.

Big Slip with Big Slick For Dunst

Tony Dunst had a good start to the day after progressing his stack up to 88,000 chips, but he's just taken a hit as again a player at table 293 found himself with pocket aces.

The board was {5-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} when Dunst moved all in over the top of his opponent's bet of 9,000, and he quickly made the call.

Dunst showed {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} for top pair but the {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} were in the lead and it stayed that way on the {3-Clubs} river. Dunst slips to 56,000.

Ladies Good to Evans

Just as we spotted Nicky Evans in the field, he spotted a hand he liked. He raised to 2,400, and a player two behind him moved all in for a few thousand more. Evans quickly called with {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds} and had to dodge his opponent's {a-Spades}{5-Spades}. The board ran out {5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{9-Spades}{10-Diamonds}, and Evans earned the knockout. He's up to 38,000 now.
