River Not Nice for Nichoel

Nichoel Peppe
Nichoel Peppe

Nichoel Peppe, 75th-place finisher in last year's Main Event, opened with a raise to 500 from under the gun and got one caller from the button.

The flop came {5-Spades}{2-Hearts}{8-Spades}. Peppe continued for 800, and her opponent called. The turn brought the {7-Spades}. This time Peppe checked, and the player on the button bet 1,400. Peppe thought a beat, then called.

The river brought the {J-Spades} and a couple of checks. All those spades on board had stifled any river action, as neither player held one. Peppe turned over {9-}{9-}, but her opponent held {A-}{J-} for jacks. That river had taken it away from Peppe. She now has 6,000.
