Day 1b is History

10 levels have been and gone, and Day 1b is now just a memory.

After some speculation that this tournament might take an unprecedented turn and actually make the money on Day 1, it looks like we have escaped that problematic fate by a decent margin.

The number on the board when the clock was stopped was 207, so by our reckoning somewhere in the region of 200 players from Day 1b will be returning tomorrow to join the 276 survivors from Day 1a. 441 places pay out, so we are expecting a short, sharp bubble come the morrow.

Braxton Dunaway looked to be the chip leader at close of play, but there are a clutch of other players including Thomas Jonides, Matt Berkey and T. J. Boytor hot on his heels.

Play will resume at 2.30 PT tomorrow. Be sure to join us back here to see who secures a place in WSOP history, and who just ends up busted.

A Full Day for Chan, But No Tomorrow

Terrence Chan pushed all in from middle position for 7,400 and it folded around to the player in the big blind who made the call. Chan tabled {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, and his opponent {A-Spades} {Q-Spades}.

The {A-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} flop gave both players two pair. The turn was the {4-Clubs} and the river the {7-Diamonds}, and Chan has been eliminated just as Day 1b concludes.

Three to Go

The tournament clock has been stopped and a draw of a card has determined players will be playing three more hands before stopping for the night. The big board suggests that 207 of the Day 1b entrants remain.

Berkey to the Kingdom

One more name to add to our growing list of late-surging big stacks is Matt Berkey. He was already a big stack when we caught him calling a short stack's push with {a-}{7-}; the shortie was holding the big dog, {k-Spades}{9-Spades}. The board ran out a handful of blanks to turn the short stack into a full-on casualty, and Berkey moved up to 90,000.

Koester Collects Some More

One player was already all in, with Tim Koester and another left to compete with each other. After a flop of {Q-Hearts} {10-Spades} {Q-Spades}, Koester bet 2,000 into the 10,000 pot, and his opponent folded.

The all-in player showed {J-Clubs} {J-Hearts}, but Koester had {A-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} for trip queens. The turn and river didn't change matters, and another player hits the rail short of making the money and Day 2. Koester now has a healthy 62,000.
