Dowd Gets No Love

Dowd busto
Dowd busto

Well, the run for Cory Dowd has ended. He was up as high as 15,000 before running queens into kings for a few thousand chips to knock him below the 10,000-chip mark. Just recently, Dowd ran queens into a bigger pair once more, this time it was aces. After being crippled, Dowd was able to find the ladies again on the short stack, but yet again ran into pocket kings and that ended his day.

First Roommates, Now Tablemates

Walking over to Andrew "luckychewy" Lichtenberger's table, we noticed that he has a new tablemate in Dan "KingDan" Smith. This isn't out of the ordinary that two young guns are seated at the same table, but Lichtenberger and Smith are roommates out here in Las Vegas, which makes it interesting. We'll see if anything develops between these two.

Big Stack Watch

A good few folks in here have now equalled or broken the 40,000 mark, and these lucky people can now count themselves as big stacks. Among their number are the following:

Christian Klauser - 40,000
Julie Dang - 40,000
Shane Campbell - 42,000
Nick Choebeck - 45,000

Chan Doubles Through Morgan

Terrence Chan
Terrence Chan

Action folded around to Terrence Chan in the small blind and he raised Jordan Morgan's big blind to 1,200. Morgan made the call. The flop came down {9-Hearts}{7-Spades}{5-Hearts} and Chan fired 1,500. Morgan made the call.

The turn card was the {4-Diamonds} and Chan checked. Morgan fired 2,200, which sent Chan into the tank. After a minute or so, Chan announced that he was all in for 7,925. Another minute went by with Morgan in the tank before he made the call.

Chan tabled the {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and Morgan tried to push his hand into the muck. The dealer stopped him and pushed the cards back in front of Morgan, who was then told to turn his cards over. He held the {J-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and was drawing dead. The river completed the board with the {10-Spades} and finished off the double for Chan, who moved up over 21,000 chips. Morgan dropped back down to 14,250.

Nought to 9,500 in Just a Few Seconds for *TT*

The sight of Jon Aguiar smiling and shaking his head in a "wow that was sick but I wasn't involved so I enjoyed it" sort of way drew our attention to the fact that Steven "*TT*" McLoughlin had just doubled up to 9,500 with pocket kings against an opponent's pocket aces. A king dropped on the flop.

"Nice hand," his opponent told him as he raked in the pot, but she really didn't look like she meant it.

Blue Somerville

Jason Somerville
Jason Somerville

Jason Somerville limped from early position, and Christian Klauser raised to 2,700 from middle position. It folded back around to Somerville who popped it up to 6,000. An undeterred Klauser responded by pushing all in for roughly 20,000 total, and Somerville quickly made the call.

Somerville {A-Hearts} {K-Spades}
Klauser {9-Clubs} {9-Spades}

The {5-Clubs} {K-Clubs} {7-Hearts} flop looked nice to Somerville. The {10-Clubs} turn he could've done without. And the {6-Clubs} river was just plain unacceptable.

The backdoor club flush gave Klauser the pot and a nice, big stack of chips. Meanwhile, Somerville tumbles down to a below average 9,000.

By the Numbers

We lost a total of 115 players during that last hour, which means 440 remain from the 1,744 who began Day 1b. After starting the day filling much of the huge Pavilion, the tournament is now being played out here in the far right corner of the ballroom on fewer than 50 tables.

Three more one-hour levels to go. A reminder: the top 441 finishers make the money in Event No. 3. 276 players made it through yesterday, so tourney officials don't want to see today's field edge too close to the 165-player mark before we end Level 10 today.
