Brock 'n' Roll; Parker Ousts Obrestad

Annette Obrestad, eliminated in Round 2
Annette Obrestad, eliminated in Round 2

Brock Parker has eliminated Annette Obrestad here in Round 2. The two-time WSOP bracelet winner gave us the scoop on how the final hand went.

Following a flop of {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs}, Obrestad bet 5,000, Parker raised to 14,000, Obrestad reraised all in for 40,000 total, and Parker called.

Obrestad held {10-}{9-Clubs} for top pair and a flush draw, while Parker had flopped a set with {4-}{4-}. Parker's hand held up, and he moves on.

Gross, Griffin, Gordon Go Go Go (to Round 3)

Steve Gross has eliminated Carlos Mortensen to move on to tomorrow's round of 64.

Ashton Griffin has won, beating Antoine Berube.

And Phil Gordon has advanced to Day 2. Gordon had the lead for much of his match against Benjamin Sulsky. Finally came a hand in which following a {9-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Spades} flop, Sulsky ended up committing all his chips with {K-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} for tens and hoped to fade Gordon's flush draw with {8-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. But the {2-Clubs} came on the turn, making the river inconsequential.

Battle of Hastings

Kevin Saul
Kevin Saul

After a dogged battle with online titan Brian Hastings, Kevin Saul has come out the other end smelling of roses and booked his place in Round 3. The final hand saw all monies hit the middle on a {9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop, Saul with his nose in front with {9-Spades}{2-Clubs} against Hasting's {J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. The {4-Diamonds} turn and {10-Clubs} river were close, but no cigar, and Hasting's hit the deck.

Esfandiari Bounces Bejedel

Antonio Esfandiari
Antonio Esfandiari

Antonio Esfandiari has knocked out Dennis Bejedel. Esfandiari took the advantage early in this one, and maintained it pretty much throughout.

Finally came a hand in which the flop came {8-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, providing enough incentive for Bejedel to commit the last of his chips. Bejedel had {K-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, but unfortunately for him Esfandiari had him barely outkicked with {K-Spades}{6-Hearts}.

The turn was the {2-Spades} and river the {4-Hearts}, and Esfandiari advances to round three.

Clements Time

Alex Keating has been dispatched by Scott Clements. Keating was pretty short upon demise, but the crucial hand occurred several minutes previous, the board reading {6-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Clements scooping up a chunky pot with {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} versus {10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}. They did chop a pot with {K-}{Q-} facing the same hand, but that merely delayed Keating's demise by a couple more hands. As a result, Clements moves one notch closer to his third WSOP bracelet.

Stivoli Not So Lucky

Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan

Jordan “iMsoLucky0” Morgan raised his button to 2,400 and Mauro Stivoli defended his big blind. The flop ran out {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}, but neither player seemed interested, both cautiously tapping their finger against the felt.

On the {8-Hearts} turn, however, Stivoli was less hospitable, leading out for 3,000. Morgan made the call. The river brought a {Q-Clubs}, and Stivoli once again fired out a bet, this time 6,200.

Morgan pushed all in and Stivoli made the call, but mucked his cards upon being shown the bad news: Morgan had rivered a flush with {9-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and was through to Round 3.
