Hellmuth Still The King For Now

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Hold'em

After raising two hands in a row to win the blinds and antes uncontested in his favorite game of Hold'em, Phil Hellmuth tried to make it three in a row but was met with a three-bet from the small blind. Hellmuth made the call to go to a flop of {10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades}.

The small blind led out with a bet and Hellmuth made the call. The turn was the {K-Spades} and again the small blind fired a bet but this time Hellmuth raised it up. The small blind re-raised and Hellmuth's last chips went into the middle.

Hellmuth: {K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}
Opponent: {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

A nice catch on the turn for Hellmuth gave him the double up as the river bricked out. He's back up to 8,000.

Deeb Done

Hold'em

Shaun Deeb was looking for a double up in Hold'em but it wasn't to be. His last stand was with {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} against an opponent's {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} with the last chips in on the flop. The board was spread {7-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{J-Hearts} as Deeb's tournament is done.

Ivey Doubles Up

The life of Ivey
The life of Ivey

Hold'em

With a raise and a re-raise in front of him, Phil Ivey looked down at {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} in the small blind and didn't flinch as he made it three bets to go. He found one caller as they saw a flop of {3-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}.

Ivey fired a bet and his opponent called, as the {7-Hearts} fell on the turn. Ivey fired again for the last of his chips and was called as his opponent revealed {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades} for overcards with a flush draw.

The river bricked the {5-Clubs} and Ivey doubles to 9,000.

Deeb Chops To Stay Alive

Stud-8

Shaun Deeb has just chopped up a pot to stay alive. Deeb led the betting on all streets before his last chips were in on the river against Bill Chen.

Deeb: ({Q-Hearts}{5-Spades}{9-Hearts}) / {Q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{A-Spades}{K-Hearts}
Chen: ({3-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{7-Clubs}) / {8-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{J-Spades}

Deeb was happy to get half for the high with just a pair of queens as Chen made a low as they chopped it up.

Hellmuth Getting Grizzley

Stud

In a battle of the table talkers, Mike Matusow completed before Phil Hellmuth announced a raise. Sam Grizzle called as did Matusow.

On fourth, Grizzle had the best hand and he led the betting with both opponents making the call. On fifth, Gizzle fired again with Hellmuth calling and Matusow getting out of the way.

On sixth street, Hellmuth paired up to take the lead but he checked to Grizzle who fired a bet. Hellmuth called, and then again check-called on the river.

Matusow: (X-X) / {5-Spades}{Q-Spades}{7-Clubs}
Hellmuth: (X-X) / {5-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades} / (X)
Grizzle: ({2-Clubs}{9-Clubs}) / {K-Clubs}{A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} / {2-}

Hellmuth mucked what he said was two pair as Grizzle showed a flush to take it down. Hellmuth is in trouble now with just 4,500 as Grizzle is our chip leader with 28,000 chips.

Bakes Busts

Razz

We have two David Bakers in the field today but only one "Bakes" who was recently eliminated from the tournament.

The game was Razz where the pair is a player's mortal enemy. Baker completed and called on fourth, before leading the betting on fifth and sixth where his last chips went into the middle.

Baker: ({7-}{6-}) / {4-}{10-}{A-}{7-} / ({K-})
Opponent: ({A-}{7-}) / {4-}{5-}{10-}{9-} / ({8-})

Baker paired up on sixth before bricking with a king on the river as his opponent took it down with an eighty-seven to eliminate Baker from the tournament.

Which Game Is This?

Sorel Mizzi
Sorel Mizzi

Razz

Sorel Mizzi has just taken down a nice pot in Razz, when some may have been forgiven for looking at the game sign to double check that it wasn't Stud.

Mizzi was showing three aces on board but that didn't stop him from firing a bet on the river, which his opponent called.

Mizzi: ({3-}{6-}{5-}) / {A-}{9-}{A-}{A-}
Opponent: (X-X-X) / {3-}{10-}{J-}{2-}

Mizzi showed a ninety-five which was good as his opponent mucked. Mizzi moves up to 12,500 chips.
