Two Days Down, One Very Long One to Go

Level 18 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

With the elimination of Chau Giang in 27h place on the very last hand of the night, Day 2 has come to an end. The field has consolidated to three tables. Tomorrow 26 survivors will return at 3pm to play down to a winner. It will be a very, very long day.

Play started today with Oleg Shamardin as chip leader and plenty of pros left in the hunt. It took more than half the day to burst the money bubble. Shamardin did make it to the money, but didn't go all that deep, finishing in 59th place. Other notables that made the money include Andy Black (77th), Steve Sung (66th), Todd Brunson (52nd), Jim Collopy (49th), Allen Kessler (39th) and Brock Parker (35th).

There one November Niner (Ylon Schwartz) and five former bracelet winners still in the field and eyeing a seat at the final table. Those five include Huck Seed, David Bach, Dan Heimiller, Jeff Madsen and Anthony Reategui. They'll be chasing overnight chip leader Sasha Rosewood, who will un-bag 399,000 chips when blinds go up to 4,000 and 8,000 (8,000 and 16,000 limits) at the start of play tomorrow.

Hopefully the last 26 will rest up overnight. It will be a very, very, VERY long Day 3 tomorrow. PokerNews will be there with all the live updates from start to finish.

Until then, you can find us at the bar.

Chau Just Misses Day 3

On the last hand of the night at his table, Chau Giang was all in in a three-way pot. The board ran out {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}. One of the players turned over {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{3-Clubs} for the nut flush, and that was good enough for both Giang and the other player to muck. Chau was eliminated in 27th place. Now he can play tomorrow's $5k shootout if he wants.

Koubi Takes 3/4

Ylon Schwartz limped under the gun, and Chau Giang raised. The button called, Fred Koubi joined in from the big blind, and Schwartz called as well. The action checked around after he {j-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop, and the free turn was the {8-Diamonds}. Koubi, Schwartz, and Giang all checked again, and this time, the button bet. Koubi called, but one big bet was enough to get rid of Ylon and Chau. Koubi called, then bet after the {j-Clubs} turn. The button called and showed {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{3-Spades} for an a-3 low and jacks and fours. With {a-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{3-Clubs}, Koubi had the same low to chop half and scooped the top half with jacks and eights.

Bach and Rosewood Tangle Again

Sasha Rosewood and David Bach have had a few encounters today, with each man managing to hold his own. But Bach, who had been leading this tournament for most of the day, has taken the worst of some of his recent confrontations with Rosewood.

Rosewood is up to 306,000, and Bach is down to 54,000, after a recent pot that went to showdown. Rosewood raised from late position before Bach three-bet the button. That second raise folded everyone back to Rosewood. He called to a flop of {5-Diamonds} {j-Diamonds} {7-Spades}, then got in a check-raise that Bach called.

Both players checked the {2-Hearts} turn. On the river {j-Spades}, Rosewood made one last bet that Bach called. Bach mucked upon being shown {a-Clubs} {j-Hearts} {10-Spades} {2-Spades}.

Madsen Notches a Knock Out

After sticking in three bets preflop, Jeff Madsen had his opponent all in. It was Madsen's {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{9-Spades}{2-Spades} against {a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}. The board fell {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{10-Hearts}, rivering Madsen a straight and sending his opponent straight to the rail. Madsen is quickly climbing the leader board and up to 224,000 now.

Buchanan Cruising

Shawn Buchanan is another player who's been quietly hanging tough all tournament. He started to Tom Dwan's right and it never got any easier from there.

Buchanan is up to 170,000 now after raising the button and then call the small blind's pre-flop re-raise. Buchanan called another bet on the {8-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {8-Spades} flop, then raised the small blind on the {9-Diamonds} turn. The small blind called that raise but folded for one last bet after the river fell {k-Diamonds}.
