Flack Keeps Flapping

Layne Flack
Layne Flack

Layne Flack is certainly in a gregarious mood after the dinner break. He got his chips in the middle again a few minutes later with {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs} against his opponent's {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}. The board came {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}, and Flack hit an ace to double up to 12,000.

"When I drink, two things happen," Flack told anyone who cared to listen. "Either I get it in with the best hand, or I make the best hand."

The player sitting next to him took out headphones.

Flack Has a Feeling

Layne Flack got all his chips in the middle in the big blind with {a-Spades}{7-Spades}, and it wasn't looking good for "the most interesting man in the world" when his opponent turned over {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}. The flop came out {9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}. "Chop it up," Flack said, not needing to see what came next. The turn and river were both jacks, and it was indeed a chopped pot.

"See, I know what's coming before you do," Flack told the dealer. He's still got 5,500.

Lee Happy Going Into Dinner

Towards the end of this level, Bernard Lee got a nice little gift when he raised with {A-}{K-} under the gun to 750 and an opponent three-bet to 1,600. When action got back to Lee he shoved in for around 12,000 and his opponent called off with the {K-Hearts}{10-Hearts} to be dominated.

The board ran out clean for Lee and he earned the double to about 26,000 in chips. Not a bad way to finish off a level and go into dinner.

Schleger Cruising

Shane Schleger raised to 700 from the cutoff, and the button called. Then the small blind raised to 1,800. Schleger four-bet to 5,000, chasing the button out. The small blind moved all in for another 1,000, and Shaniac called with {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}. The small blind's {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} was in bad shape, and it didn't get any better as the board came {j-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{8-Diamonds}. The elimination moved Schleger up to 25,500.

Mattern Earns Chip Lead

Arnaud Mattern
Arnaud Mattern

Arnaud Mattern raised to 700 under the gun, and Martin Kabrhel reraised him to 2,100 on the button. Mattern called to see the {j-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop, which he checked. Kabrhel bet 1,800, and Arnaud called. After the {8-Hearts} turn, he check-called another 4,200. The river brought the {6-Clubs}, and Mattern checked a third street. Kabrhel put Mattern all in, and this time, it was an easy call for Mattern. He'd rivered a set with {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}. He didn't need it though, as all Kabrhel had was {10-Spades}{7-Spades} for a missed gutshot. Thanks to Kabrhel's steal attempt, Mattern is now the chip leader with 46,000. Kabrhel fell all the way down to 15,000.

They Keep On Fallin'

We're down to 980 players now. Jon Turner, Alex Kamberis, and Chad Batista disappeared recently to help that number drop. Kevin Saul, William Reynolds, and Matt Brady followed suit shortly after.

Aggression Pays for Kabrhel

A player under the gun opened to 500, and Martin Kabrhel raised to 1,500. Arnaud Mattern flat called, and it folded back to the original raiser. He four-bet shoved for 6,000, and Kabrhel refused to back down. Instead, he reshoved for a total of 24,000. Mattern had 22,000 left and folded rather than call all in with what he tells us were pocket queens. He was kicking himself when the all-in player showed a pair of nines and Kabrhel showed {a-}{3-}. But Mattern felt less badly about it when Kabrhel spiked an ace to scoop the pot and move up to 35,000.
