Day 1 Completed

All Wrapped Up Here In Event #8!

Josh Schlein
Josh Schlein

After ten hours of play and over two thousand eliminations, the final hand of the night has been dealt in Event #8: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em.

2,341 players took to the felt nearly thirteen hours ago in the third low buy-in no limit hold'em event of the series. Just as expected a field mixed with amateurs, veterans, professionals and those wanting to get their tournament fix all handed over $1,500 to create a $3,160,350 prizepool.

Humberto Brenes, Boris Becker, Lex Veldhuis, Joseph Cada, Brandon Cantu, Liv Boeree, Annette Obrestad, Allen Cunningham, Tom Dwan, John Juanda, Erick Lindgren, Erik Seidel and the recent Poker Players Champion Michael Mizrachi were just a handful of notables to take the felt but fall to the rail over the course of play.

Jean-Robert Bellande (89,200), Phil Hellmuth (84,700), Danny Wong (77,600) and Amnon Filippi (55,800) lead the respected notables remaining, but it is Josh Schlein leading the remaining 277 players with 127,300 in chips. Hugo Perez (109,300), Tim Milliron (106,900), Sam Trickett (102,800) and Scott Vener (101,000) are yapping on his heels.

With 243 players making the money tomorrow, it is still anyone's tournament to win. However it will be the $568,974 first prize, coveted gold bracelet and title of Event 8 Champion being the goal for everyone that remains.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be providing all the live updates tomorrow as we play down to a final table, so make sure to stay tuned to us from 2:30pm PST as we cover every rivered flush, turned straight and flopped set live from Event 8 and the 2010 World Series of Poker!

Seif Eliminated Just Before Day's End

Mark Seif was a powerhouse throughout Day 1 of the tournament; however, that all changed in one big hand.

We are unsure of the action, but with the board reading {8-Hearts}{7-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{6-Hearts}, both Seat 6 and Seif had all of their chips in the middle. Seif had {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} and Seat 6 {A-Spades}{K-Spades}. Seat 6 took down the pot of 55,300 and Seif was left with only 4,200.

Two hands later, Seif shoved all in for 4,100 and was called by the small blind.

Seif: {Q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Small Blind: {K-Spades}{J-Spades}

The board was kind to Seif coming {Q-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and giving him a much needed double up to around 9,500.

The very next hand, Seif again went all in and was called by one player. Again, Seif was behind with {J-Diamonds}{10-Spades} against his opponent's {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}. When the board ran out {3-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}, Seif's luck ran out. He was eliminated at the very end of Day 1.

Just Four More Hands

The Tournament Director has just announced that there will be four more hands of play for the evening before players bag and tag their chips.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for all the updated chip counts and a full recap of the day.

Two Hands and Shulman is Out

The first hand saw Barry Shulman call Danny Wong's all in with {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} on a {3-Hearts}{J-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{7-Spades} board. Unfortunately for him, he was left with less than 2,000 when his Wong showed {A-Hearts}{A-Spades} and won a $60,000 pot.

The next hand, Shulman was all in with {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} against an opponent's {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}. A double up was looking good when the flop came {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades}, followed by a {Q-Hearts} on the turn; however, the {A-Spades} on the river sent Shulman home just shy of Day 2.

Deeb Falls To Milliron

Tim Milliron opened to 2,500 from middle position, and after a call from Carl Johnson, Shaun Deeb moved all in from the button for his last 26,000.

Milliron made the call and Johnson folded as we headed to a showdown.

Milliron: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}
Deeb: {J-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

The board ran out {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{4-Spades}{6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} to see Deeb hit the rail and Milliron soar into the chip lead with 112,000 and change.

Bellande Playing Perfect, JRB Training School Soon To Open!

Jean Robert-Bellande looking to ship it crucial!
Jean Robert-Bellande looking to ship it crucial!

Jean-Robert Bellande opened to 3,000 from middle position and Phil Hellmuth made the call.

On a flop of {9-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs} Bellande fired out 5,000 and Hellmuth quickly made the call to see the {7-Clubs} land on the turn and a check follow from Bellande.

"How much you have left?" asked Hellmuth.

Bellande sat there looking blankly at the board before parting his hands so that Hellmuth could view in full sight his chip stack.

"What's the total?" Hellmuth asked the dealer as the dealer cut down Bellande's stack to total 25,400.

"Small bets mean nothing" stated Hellmuth as he tossed in a 3,800-chip bet which Bellande called before both players checked the {2-Diamonds} on the river.

Bellande tabled his {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} and Hellmuth asked, "what he have?"

Hellmuth nodded his head and flashed his {4-Hearts}{4-Spades} before folding to slip to 54,000 as Bellande began to rake in the pot to climb back to 48,000.

"Your small bets mean nothing Phil" Bellande added.

"All those guys that watch poker VT are wasting their time. If they want to play perfect poker they should just put a camera behind me. I couldn't of played that hand any better," Bellande finished off much to the amusement of the rail and fellow table combatants.
