Justin Pechie opened to 2,300 with the button and Paul Wasicka defended his big blind. The flop fell and Wasicka checked to Pechie who continued for 2,700. Wasicka check-raised to 7,600, Pechie moved all in for 22,700 and Wasicka called.
Showdown
Pechie:
Wasicka
The smacked on the turn giving Wasicka a better flush, and after the bricked on the river, Pechie was eliminated.
Wasicka is off to a nice start, and now sits with 56,000 chips.
There aren't too many notables here in the orange section, but we did spot a few recognizable faces with the likes of Marc Naalden, Juha Helppi, Evelyn Ng (woot woot!), Barny Boatman, Adam Lunglen and double bracelet winner Jesper Hougaard (yes, I am including WSOPE) all mustard keen to make it through the day.
Perhaps the most interesting clash will come on the feature table where Vanessa Rousso faces Jake Cody, a name few Americans will have heard of, but one that grew to prominence in the UK recently after a victory in last year's Deauville EPT.
Alexander Kostritsyn is off to s strong start on day three after recently eliminating a short-stacked opponent.
Facing a raise to 3,000 from middle position, Kostritsyn made it 8,100 to go from the cutoff. The table folded around to the original raiser who moved all in for around 25,000, with Kostritsyn insta-calling.
Kostritsyn:
Opponent:
The board bricked out and Kostritsyn sends one to the rail to move up to 240,000.
We caught the action on the flop as Jason Cole was leading out with a bet of 5,000. The board showed , and Johnny Chan thought that was worth a raise to 12,000 straight. Cole moved all in for 28,400 with , and Chan made the call, his well out in front and poised for the knockout.
The turn and river did nothing to help Cole's plight, and he's going to have the rest of the day off. Chan is now back in front of the field with 390,000 chips.
Up on the orange section feature table, Robert Lang got his last in with - and was woefully behind the in the hands of Vanessa Rousso.
Rousso looked cheerful indeed as the hands were turned over, but her smile faded somewhat as a third queen dropped on the flop to ship Lang the fortunate double up.
Lang doubled to around 80,000. Rousso dropped to around 40,000.
Jim Bechtel, who won the Main Event back in 1993, was all in preflop with against the of Carter Phillips. The board ran out , giving Phillips the straight and the win. He is now up to around 400,000 while Bechtel was eliminated from the tournament.
