Andreas Krause Eliminated in 5th Place ($44,693)

Andreas Krause - 5th Place
Andreas Krause - 5th Place

After several raises on third, Andreas Krause ended up all in against his nemesis Tommy Chen. Their boards ran out as follows.

Chen: {A-}{5-} / {8-}{10-}{4-}{K-} / {3-}
Krause: {2-}{5-} / {10-}{Q-}{J-}{6-} / (X)

Chen made an eight-low on the end which Krause couldn’t beat since he had a jack-low and was only drawing to a ten-low with his last card to come. Krause got up from his chair to exit the final table area and the dealer flipped up another {10-} for his last card which officially eliminated him.

Su Advancing

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Stephen Su has won consecutive pots off the chip leader Tommy Chen, and he's closing the gap a bit. Chen is back down around a million chips now, and Su has moved into second place with more than 600,000.

Chris Bjorin Eliminated in 6th Place ($33,338)

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Chris Bjorin - 6th place
Chris Bjorin - 6th place

After his crippling, Chris Bjorin did manage one small double up through Stephen Su, but that's where the comeback ended.

In his final hand, Bjorin completed with a {5-} up, and Rep Porter called with a {9-}.

Bjorin: (X)(X) / {5-}{k-}{4-}{q-} / (X)
Porter: (X)(X) / {9-}{5-}{8-}{j-} / (X)

Porter picked up the lead on fourth, and he bet it. Bjorin called there, and he called another bet on fifth. Porter bet in the dark on sixth street, and Bjorin called all in for 25,000 total. The hands were turned up:

Bjorin: {8-}{6-} / {5-}{k-}{4-}{q-} / (X)
Porter: {a-}{2-} / {9-}{5-}{8-}{j-} / (X)

Porter had already made his nine with one card to come, but Bjorin was drawing live to his eight. Live, that is, until Porter flipped over his river card, a {3-}. That left Bjorin drawing dead to the eighty-five, and he flipped over a meaningless river {Q-} on his way out the door.

Bjorin will take home $33,338 for his sixth-place finish here in this event, but his bid for bracelet number three has come up just short.

Porter is now back to about 400,000 in the midst of this up-and-down day.

Bjorn Crippled as Chen Goes Over a Million

Chen: (X)(X) / {10-}{7-}{4-}{J-} / (X)
Bjorin: (X)(X)/ {A-}{10-}{9-}{10-} / (X)

We caught up with the action on fourth where Chris Bjorin check-called Tommy Chen’s bet. Chen then led out on all remaining streets and Bjorin called all the way down. Chen slammed down his under cards in usual fashion which were {3-}{8-}{5-} to give him an unbeatable eighty-seven. Bjorin quietly mucked his hand as Chen was the first to go over the million chip mark.

Krause Krushed

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Tommy Chen completed with a {7-}, and Andreas Krause called with his {A-} showing. They'd go all the way to showdown.

Krause bet his lead on fourth street, and Chen called. The lead switched on fifth, and Chen's bet was eventually called. On sixth street, Chen checked and called a bet from Krause. On seventh, he re-took the lead with a bet of his own, and Krause quickly called.

Chen revealed {8-}{6-}{2-}, and Krause shot out of his chair in frustration. He walked over and said a few words to his friends on the rail, then came back to the table and lectured Chen. "Look what I started with," he said, opening up {5-}{3-}. He'd bricked, though, and he ended with an inferior {8-}{5-}{3-} / {a-}{9-}{a-}{10-}, and that loss drops him down to just 112,000.

Chen is closing in on the million-chip mark.

Break it Down

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 3,000 ante

We've got four levels (or less?) left in Day 3, and we're headed off for a 20-minute break. It's a shame too, because the action just started to pick up again in the last couple hands. In any event, we'll be back with a fresh round of chip counts.

Matt Smith Eliminated in 7th Place ($25,228)

Matt Smith - 7th Place
Matt Smith - 7th Place

Chen: (X)(X) / {A-}{4-}{2-}{4-}
Smith: (X)(X) / {7-}{3-}{A-}{3-}

Tommy Chen completed and Matt Smith made the call. Chen led out on fourth and Smith called the bet. On fifth, Chen checked and now Smith bet. Chen came back with a check-raise and Smith called. On sixth, Chen went back to leading out and Smith raised to put himself all in. Chen made the call and quickly slammed down {5-}{6-} for a six-low as he got out of his chair and began hopping. Smith turned over {5-}{8-} for an eight-low that was drawing dead. The last cards for each were a meaningless {10-} for Chen and a {2-} for Smith that made him a seven-low that wasn’t good enough and he was eliminated. The pot gave Chen somewhat of a recovery of the chips he had lost in the previous few pots.

Porter Shops at Valuetown

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 3,000 ante

Rep Porter completed with a {2-} showing, and Tommy Chen flatted with a {9-}.

Porter: (X)(X) / {2-}{7-}{4-}{9-} / (X)
Chen: (X)(X) / {9-}{10-}{3-}{2-} / (X)

Porter got four more streets of value as Chen called bets all the way down through seventh street. In the end, Porter showed up {7-}{6-}{5-} / {2-}{7-}{4-}{9-}, and the seven-six was good enough to drag the pot.
