Gross Doubles Through Cloutier

With around 60,000 in the pot and a board reading {4-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}, Steve Gross was all in for 47,600 and up against Eric Cloutier.

Gross: {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}
Cloutier: {J-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

Gross was ahead and needed to dodge a jack or ten on the river, which is what he did when the {4-Spades} peeled off. Double for Gross.

Contemplating the Situation

Chris Moorman
Chris Moorman

Soft-spoken Chris Moorman was in early position and opened for 6,500. His bet cleared the field all the way to Sam Stein in the cutoff before being met with a 17,200 reraise. The button and blinds got out of the way, leaving Moorman to make the call.

Both players then checked the {4-Spades}{8-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop, which was followed by the {6-Spades} turn. At this point, Moorman bet 19,500, Stein raised to 40,500, and Moorman hit the tank. He spent a solid three minutes contemplating the situation, and we're not talking about Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, before finally releasing his hand.

A Few Chip Counts

Bonomo Busts

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante
Jennifer Tilly
Jennifer Tilly

We found this hand on the flop as Justin Bonomo was counting his all in. The board read {9-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {10-Spades} and Jennifer TIlly called Bonomo's 12,800 bet.

Bonomo: {A-Diamonds} {J-Hearts}
Tilly: {A-Spades} {9-Spades}

The board finished with runner runner spades with {6-Spades} {K-Spades} to give Tilly the nut flush and push her to around 270,000.

The Kings of Matusow

Mike Matusow
Mike Matusow

We didn't catch all the action, but we do know that Mike "The Mouth" Matusow was all in for 90,300 with {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds} against the {A-Spades}{K-Clubs} of Binh Nguyen. The board ran out {9-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} and Matusow doubled through the Day 1 chip leader.

Missed Opportunities

Just before the level up, Daniel Negreanu raised from the hijack and received a call from Dani Stern in the small blind. Thomas Bichon then reraised from the big blind and action was back on Negreanu, who decided to four-bet to 40,000. Surprisingly, Stern then five-bet to 140,000. Bichon called off for around 40,000 and the pressure was back on Negreanu.

"Queens?" Negreanu asked. "I'm supposed to call if you have queens." After about a minute of thought, Negreanu tossed {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}. Stern didn't have queens, instead revealing {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}. Bichon was at risk and needed help with his {A-Spades}{10-Diamonds}. The {K-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} flop did not provide it, but it did get Negreanu to chuckle at a missed opportunity.

It looked as if Bichon was destined for the rail, but then the {A-Diamonds} hit the river to give him the lead. The {8-Clubs} river changed nothing and Bichon more than tripled on the hand.

Obrestad Finds Callers, Still Short-Stack

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante
Annette Obrestad won, but short-stacked.
Annette Obrestad won, but short-stacked.

Annette Obrestad only had 1,000 chips and put it in the pot in early position. Jason Mercier raised to 5,100. Sam Stein called from the button, Nicholas Levi called from the small blind and Beth Shak called from the big blind.

With five players going to the flop, and Obrestad's main pot at 5,000, the flop came {8-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {Q-Clubs}. Levi and Shak both checked, Mercier bet 8,700, Stein called and the blinds got out of the way. The turn came {K-Spades} and both active players checked. The {4-Clubs} river brought a 13,800 bet from Mercier.

Stein tanked for a few moments and asked Merceir, "What do you have behind? I want to know, I 'm not gonna raise you." Which brought laughs from the table. Stein called and all players tabled their hands.

Obrestad: {K-Hearts} {7-Spades}
Mercier: {A-Hearts} {Q-Spades}
Stein: {A-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts}

Obrestad won the 5,000 main pot with two-pair, while the much larger side pot was split between Stein and Mercier.
