This Aint Gonna Be Easy

With such a big field the pros will be rubbing their hands in anticipation of some soft spots. Not so, for the poor souls who have landed on Table 24.

Seat 1Tom Middleton
Seat 2Kenny Hallaert
Seat 6Kevin MacPhee
Seat 9Eric Baldwin

It is MacPhee who has the majority of the chips in the early stages and here he is in action: -

MacPhee made it 75 to play from early position before Eric Baldwin three-bet to 200 in late position. MacPhee made the call and the pair shared a flop of {J-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} which was checked through. The turn card was the {K-Clubs} and MacPhee fired out a bet of 225 which Baldwin raised to 550. Back to MacPhee and he took his time before increasing the pressure on Baldwin with a raise to 1,750. Baldwin took the hint and folded his hand and the dealer brushed the chips towards MacPhee.

Trickett Is Under The Weather

Over in the Pavilion, poor Sam Trickett can hardly speak due a cold he is carrying. But despite his lack of voice he is still amassing chips as this following hand demonstrates.

Trickett was seated in the big blind, facing a barrage of limpers, when he raised to 200. The player under the gun made the call as did one more player, and the three of them headed to the flop.

Flop: {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}

Trickett bet 400, the player under the gun raised to 1,000, the third player in the hand folded and Trickett made the call.

Turn: {7-Hearts}

Checkity-check

River: {9-Spades}

Trickett made a bet of 2,000 and his opponent mucked his hand.

Texas Crazy Horse

We joined the action in a multi-way limped pot and our attention was focussed on the behemoth seated in the big blind. The retired MMA fighter Heath "Crazy Horse" Herring is that behemoth and here he is playing down to the river.

The flop was {9-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {6-Spades} and the action checked through to the player in the cutoff who bet 150. Herring made the call before there was a check-raise to 450 from a player seated in early position. The original raiser folded but Herring made the call.

Turn: {A-Diamonds}

Herring tapped the felt and his opponent reached into his stack in double quick time. The bet was 525 and Herring made a very quick call.

River: {2-Clubs}

Another quick tap of the felt from Herring and this time his opponent slowed down. He considered just checking back but eventually decided to bet 700. Herring was wearing a t-shirt with the slogan, "I am not lying," emblazoned on it and he wasn't. The Texas Crazy Horse made the call and the end result was a split pot.

Quick Exit For Barry

Barry Greenstein didn't have the start he was hoping for at this years WSOP. We witnessed Greenstein's bustout hand as he was all-in for a small amount of chips against two players. On a {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{A-Clubs} both players checked and on the river a small 500 chip bet was thrown out. This bet got called and Greenstein showed his {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. That wasn't nearly enough to stay in the tournament as he was up against {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and {A-Spades}{6-Spades}.

Rheem Doing Good

We caught the final part of a hand in which Chino Rheem folded, but nevertheless he is doing very well today. The board read {K-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{10-Hearts} and Rheem check-folded to a 1.025 bet after pondering for a couple of minutes. He tried to get information out of his opponent, but the talk didn't help him.

Freshly crowned WPT Championship winner Marvin Rettenmaier also joined the action a couple of tables over. The German Tweeted about walking into Rheem who was out for more than just congratulating him. "Just arrived, @ChinoRheem goes: "hey, u wanna borrow me some money - u just won a lot, right?" :D Give him some credit for his humour! #WSOP". The atmosphere at the Rio is really good and everybody seems full of energy to make it another memorable summer!

Cody Down to 2.1K

In 2011, Event 2 was won by Jake Cody. That time it was the $25,000 No-Limit Heads-Up Championship and a not too shabby $851,192 for the young Englishman. He starts the day alongside Martins Adeniya and Alessandro Speranza and has some work to do after the following hand.

Cody raised to 150 in the cutoff and the small blind made the call. The flop was {10-Clubs} {9-Clubs} {6-Hearts} and the small blind check-called a 200 Cody bet. The turn was the {4-Spades} and the same action ensued; this time for 400. Finally the pair were dealt the {7-Hearts} on the river and the small blind checked for a third consecutive time. Cody peered at his opponent before betting 600 and the reaction was an all-in jam for around 1,000 more. Cody quickly released his hand and now has 2,100 in chips.
