The Bubble Hath Burst

Jesse Martin bursts the bubble.
Jesse Martin bursts the bubble.

On the 24th hand of hand for hand play, Jesse Martin was forced all in for 3,000 in the big blind. Cary Marshall limped from early position and Chek Shen raised the action from the button. Marshall called and the two were contesting for a side pot while Martin sat quietly.

The flop came {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts} and both Marshall and Shen checked. The {6-Spades} rolled off on the turn and Marshall checked. Shen bet and Marshall folded. Shen showed {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades} for ace-king high.

The dealer completed the board with the {3-Spades} and Martin tabled the {8-Clubs}{5-Spades} for absolutely nothing. Martin became our bubble boy and the final 27 players are now all guaranteed at least $5,799.

This hand garnered a small crowd of other players in this tournament. Among the crowd was Michael Shelton who couldn't help but comment on the hand.

"Why did you bet the turn with ace high?" proclaimed Shelton while laughing. "That's gotta be the worst bet in history! He bet the turn with ace high with a player all in!"

Shen was quiet through all of the comments and merely stacked his new chips.

Hand #22

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante
Thumbs up if you'd play ace-king.
Thumbs up if you'd play ace-king.

Maria Ho, Yakov Hirsch, and Jesse Martin are very short, but Hirsch is by far the shortest.

"Would you fold kings?!?" someone shouted to him from an adjacent table.

"No," Hirsch shot back, smiling. "I'll play kings and I'll play aces."

"What about ace-king," Ho asked.

"I don't know about ace-king," he answered.

Ho then asked if they could institute antes for just a few hands, to force Hirsch to go all in.

Manger Doubles On Fourteenth Hand of Hand-for-Hand Play

John Myung opened the action with a raise and Jason Manger three-bet. Brandon Young called the three-bet and Myung opted to four bet. Manger capped the action and received two calls.

The flop was {4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and Manger bet out. Young raised and Myung got out of the way. After a series of raised Manger was all in against Young and ahead.

Manger: {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}
Young: {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}

The turn and river were of no help to Young and Manger's pocket aces were enough to score him more than a double up.

"There Goes my Chip Lead"

Just before the break, Paul Berende raised in middle position, and Joseph Kuether defended his big blind.

"I'm probably going to bet 3,000," Berende said, grinning.

The flop was {7-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{9-Spades}, and Kuether led out. Berende laughed, then called.

The turn was the {2-Hearts}, and Kuether led out again.

"There goes my chip lead," Berende announced, making the call.

The river was the {4-Hearts}, and Kuether led out one last time. Berende called.

"Nine," Kuether announced, showing {k-}{9-}.

Berende's {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} was best however, and he won the pot to stay in the lead.
