Hellmuth Flops the Nuts

Level 5 : 100/200, 0 ante

We happened by Table 10 with 1,000 in the pot and a flop of {j-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}. A woman in Seat 1 was already all in, and a player in middle-position checked to 13-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth in the cutoff.

Hellmuth took his time before putting out a bet, which inspired the middle-position player to fold. Hellmuth then tabled the {q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{10-Spades} for the flopped nuts, and the lady showed the {8-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{5-Spades} for an inferior flush. Hellmuth seemed to have a lock on the hand, but the running {3-Hearts} turn and {5-Clubs} river gave the lady a low for half the pot.

"Good job, dealer," the lady said excitedly while Hellmuth sat quietly.

Despite winning a part of that pot, Hellmuth is down from the starting stack of 4,500.
