Kid Poker Felled by the Unabomber

Level 18 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

We saw the railbirds surrounding the feature table get up on their feet and immediately knew trouble was afoot. We raced to the table just in time to see the classic flip between Daniel Negreanu's {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} and Phil "The Unabomber" Laak's {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}.

Negreanu was the one at risk for roughly 450,000, and he was also the one that needed to improve to stay alive in Event #47: $111,111 One Drop High Rollers No-Limit Hold'em.

Much to Negreanu's dismay, and that of his supporters, the board ran out a lowly {10-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{10-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and the man nicknamed "Kid Poker" was eliminated from the tournament.

Lee Nearlys Triples While Eliminating 1978 WSOP Main Event Champ

Level 18 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Bobby Baldwin
Bobby Baldwin

Chris Lee opened for 60,000 in early position and was met by a three-bet to 135,000 by Eugene Katchalov on the button. Bobby Baldwin, who won the World Series of Poker way back in 1978, then shoved all in for 315,000 from the big blind. Lee moved all in over the top for 525,000 or so and Katchalov called to put both of them at risk.

Katchalov: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}
Baldwin: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Lee: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

Baldwin was in bad shape, and so was Lee as Katchalov had the granddaddy of all hands. Fortunately for Lee, he would receive a reprieve when the {3-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop delivered him a set. The {8-Clubs} turn and {10-Spades} river failed to change anything, and Lee nearly tripled while Baldwin was sent to the rail.

Robl Runs into Aces

Level 18 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Andrew Robl - Eliminated
Andrew Robl - Eliminated

Before the level changed, Martin Finger and Andrew Robl were heads up on a flop of {j-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. Finger led out for 175,000, Robl called, and the turn was the {5-Spades}. Finger fired out 800,000, but the bet was really only worth around 600,000 . Robl tank-called, putting himself with risk, and he was well behind.

Finger: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}
Robl: {q-Spades}{j-Spades}

The {5-Hearts} completed the board, and Robl was eliminated.

Finger is now sitting with 3.8 million chips.

Deeb Busts Silverman

Level 17 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Steven Silverman
Steven Silverman

Three players took a flop of {4-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{7-Clubs}, including Hyoung Chae, Steven Silverman, and Shaun Deeb. The action checked to Deeb, who fired out 71,000, and Chae folded. When he did, his cards flashed, and the dealer turned them over. He had {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}.

Silverman called, and both Deeb and Silverman checked on the turn ({8-Hearts}). The {10-Clubs} completed the board, Silverman checked again, and Deeb moved all in for around 500,000. Silverman tank-called with {k-}{8-} for two pair, but he hit the rail when Deeb tabled {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a rivered straight.

Action at Table 447

Level 17 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Matt Glantz doubles twice
Matt Glantz doubles twice

Shaun Deeb was on the button, and raised to 52,000. Igor Kurganov three-bet to 136,000 from the small blind, Deeb called, and the flop fell {7-Spades}{5-Clubs}{2-Clubs}. Kurganov led out for 132,000, Deeb called, and the turn was the {j-Clubs}. Both players checked.

A repeat five - the {5-Diamonds} - completed the board, and Kurganov fired out another 250,000 or so. Deeb called.

Kurganov showed {q-Hearts}{q-Spades} for queens and fives, but they were no good against Deeb's {6-Spades}{5-Spades} for trip fives.

A few hands later, Matt Glantz was all in and at risk preflop against Deeb holding {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}. It was a race as Deeb showed {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}, and Glantz survived when the flop, turn, and river came {q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Spades}.

The fireworks continued not too long after that hand, and Kurganov was all in against Deeb. This time it was Kurganov with the {a-}{k-} and Deeb had {a-}{a-}. The aces held, and Kurganov hit the rail.

And finally, Deeb and Glantz played yet another all-in pot. We're unclear of the details, but Glantz doubled yet again.

Zugwat Doubles on Last Hand Before Dinner

Level 16 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Steven Silverman
Steven Silverman

Jason Mo raised to 44,000 in early position, Hyoung Chae called on his direct left, and Steven "Zugwat" Silverman moved all in for 375,000 near the button. The action folded back to Mo, who re-shoved having both players covered, and Chae went deep into the tank.

While he was tanking, several players were walking out of the area to goto break, and Chae stopped Andrew Lichtenberger. He showed Lichtenberger his hand, but Lichtenberger knew he couldn't say anything, so he just laughed. Chae laughed as well, then folded his hand.

Mo: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Silverman: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

"Same hand," Chae said, motioning towards Mo's hand.

Silverman held as the board rolled out {j-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}, doubling to 838,000 chips.

Finger Wins Biggest Pot of the Tournament Thus Far to Eliminate Makhija & Lamb

Level 16 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Martin Finger on Day 1.
Martin Finger on Day 1.

A monster pot just went down at Table 452 that resulted in Amit Makhija and Ben Lamb hitting the rail. Not only that, it established a clear chip leader in Germany's Martin Finger, who won his first bracelet a couple weeks back.

We're not sure of the preflop action, but we do know that Makhija, who had about 340,000, ended up all in while Lamb and Finger created a sizable side pot. After the stacks were counted, Lamb ended up all in for 1.1 million while Finger had him covered by less than 100,000.

Finger: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}
Lamb: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Makhija: {q-}{q-}

Makhija got it in with the best hand, while Lamb was in the lead for the side pot. Unfortunately for them both, the {k-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} flop delivered Finger a king and the lead. Neither the {5-Diamonds} turn nor {7-Spades} river changed a thing and Finger scored the double elimination.

Meanwhile, Fabian Quoss was eliminated from the feature table by Gus Hansen in unknown action.

Lichtenberger Devours Juanda

Level 16 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
John Juanda
John Juanda

"All in and a call," we heard the dealer at the feature table announce. We made our way up just in time to see John Juanda all in holding the {k-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and up against the {a-Hearts}{k-Spades} of Andrew Lichtenberger.

The man known as "lucky chewy" was well out in front, and the {j-Spades}{10-Spades}{q-Spades} flop essentially sealed the deal as he flopped Broadway with a royal flush redraw! Juanda could still chop with a non-spade ace, but he wouldn't find one as the {4-Diamonds} appeared on the turn followed by the {J-Diamonds} on the river.

Jason Mercier - Eliminated
Jason Mercier - Eliminated

Jason Mercier was all in and at risk preflop holding {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs} against Jason Koon's {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}. The kings held as the board came {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{a-Spades}{q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}, and Mercier was eliminated.

"Good luck, guys," Mercier said, leaving the table.

"Jason Koon, cleaning up," Tobias Reinkemeier said, grinning.

"It's easy," Koon started. "When you get kings."

Prior to Mercier's bust, Koon eliminated Kyle Julius:
