Brandon Steven Leads The Way Into Day 2 of the One Drop High Rollers No-Limit Hold'em

Welcome to PokerNews' Day 2 coverage of Event #47, the $111,111 One Drop High Rollers No-Limit Hold'em. A field of 166 came to play, generating a prize pool of $17,891,148. The first-place prize is set at $4,830,619, 24 players make the money, and leading the 108 Day 1 survivors is Brandon Steven with 1,398,000.

A crucial pot after the dinner break against Tom Dwan went in Steven's favor, en route to his bagging the chip lead at night's end. Second in chips is Tobias Reinkemeier with 1,225,000. After late registering, Reinkemeier's Day 1 got off to a fast start after he eliminated Dan Smith. Rounding out the top five is Dan Shak (999,000), Jason Mo (975,000), and Chris Lee (906,000).

Among those still in the field are Daniel Negreanu (785,000), Gus Hansen (643,000), and last year's Big One For One Drop champion Antonio Esfandari (445,000). The remaining field is packed with big names and for a full player list, check out the Day 2 seat draw here.

Day 2 kicks off at 1pm local time, about an hour from now, and the plan is to play ten levels or to stop when the final table of eight players is reached. Here Comes Esfandiari

Level 11 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Action folded around to Jim McCrink on the button and he put in a raise to 15,000. Antonio Esfandiari was next to act in the small blind and opted for a three-bet to 38,000. The big blind quickly folded and McCrink took about a minute before he four-bet to 90,000.

Esfandiari hit the tank hard for about four minutes before waking up with a five-bet to 193,000. With the pressure back on McCrink, he spent about three minutes in the tank before announcing that he was all in for roughly 480,000. Esfandiari snap-called.

"Nice hand," McCrink complimented his opponent. Esfandiari was out of his seat with his gaze firmly fixed on the flop, which came down . McCrink came up dry and needed a nine in order to stay alive. The turn wasn't what he was looking for and neither was the river.

The stacks were counted down just to make sure, and then Esfandiari was awarded the monster pot.

Mercier No Longer Peaking

Two-time World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner Jason Mercier had just tweeted about how he was peaking in this event with his chip stack up to 700,000. Well, thanks to Tobias Reinkemeier, he is no longer peaking. In fact, Reinkemeier knocked him all the way back down to under the starting stack amount.

From under the gun, Mercier opened with a raise to 20,000. A couple seats over, Reinkemeier reraised to 41,000, and action folded back around the table to Mercier. Mercier made the call to see the dealer roll out the on the flop. Following a check from Mercier, Reinkemeier fired a bet of 40,000. Mercier wasted little time in making the call to see the turn.

Fourth street was the , and Mercier checked again. Reinkemeier stayed on the gas and put more pressure on his opponent with a bet of 107,000. Mercier made the call.

Then, the dealer completed the board with the . Mercier checked, and Reinkemeier sat motionless for a few brief moments before asking Mercier how much he was playing. Mercier responded nonverbally by moving his hands out of the way so Reinkemeier could see his stack. Then, Reinkemeier double-fisted two tall towers of chips for a bet of 225,000. Mercier tanked, and eventually confirmed the bet amount before making the call.

Reinkemeier turned up the after Mercier called, and Mercier mucked his hand unable to produce better. Reinkemeier collected the pot and moved to over 1 million in chips. Mercier dropped back to 280,000.

Matt Glantz raised to 26,000 from the hijack seat, Shaun Deeb three-bet to 71,000 in the cutoff, and Fabrice Touil cold-called in the big blind. Glantz folded, the dealer fanned , and Touil checked. Deeb fired out 105,000, Touil raised to 295,000, and Deeb moved all in for 692,000.

Touil asked for the dealer to pull the bets in, which took a little bit of time, and after this was finished, Touil called. The Frenchman showed for a set of sevens, annoying Deeb who showed .

Deeb was not annoyed by the turn card though, because the gave him a straight. The completed the board, and Deeb doubled to 1.6 million chips.

Touil was left with just 76,000, and busted a few hands later to Steven Silverman. The chips went in preflop blind vs. blind, Silverman had , Touil had , and Silverman held.

Soon after that, Deeb eliminated Lee Markholt. Markholt open-jammed for around 140,000 from under the gun, and Deeb snap-called in the big blind with . Markholt was crushed with , and the flop didn't improve his hand.

The fell on the turn, giving Markholt a set, but Deeb made a four flush when the completed the board.

Deeb now sits with 1.75 million chips.

Negreanu Ejects Madden

Koon Busts Mercier and Julius

Lichtenberger Devours Juanda

"All in and a call," we heard the dealer at the feature table announce. We made our way up just in time to see John Juanda all in holding the and up against the of Andrew Lichtenberger.

The man known as "lucky chewy" was well out in front, and the flop essentially sealed the deal as he flopped Broadway with a royal flush redraw! Juanda could still chop with a non-spade ace, but he wouldn't find one as the appeared on the turn followed by the on the river.

Finger Wins Biggest Pot of the Tournament Thus Far to Eliminate Makhija & Lamb

Level 16 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

A monster pot just went down at Table 452 that resulted in Amit Makhija and Ben Lamb hitting the rail. Not only that, it established a clear chip leader in Germany's Martin Finger, who won his first bracelet a couple weeks back.

We're not sure of the preflop action, but we do know that Makhija, who had about 340,000, ended up all in while Lamb and Finger created a sizable side pot. After the stacks were counted, Lamb ended up all in for 1.1 million while Finger had him covered by less than 100,000.

Makhija got it in with the best hand, while Lamb was in the lead for the side pot. Unfortunately for them both, the flop delivered Finger a king and the lead. Neither the turn nor river changed a thing and Finger scored the double elimination.
