Cassidy Chips Up with Shove

Level 7

Pot-Limit Omaha

On the {8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop, Mike Leah checked to Phil Galfond, and he bet 19,000. Joe Cassidy raised all in for 89,400 total, and Leah-tank-folded. Galfond also tanked and folded, giving Cassidy the pot and allowing him to chip up to over 140,000.

Zaichenko Bests Volpe; Brunson Bests Zaichenko

Level 7

Limit Hold'em

Paul Volpe opened for 5,000 in middle position and cleared the field all the way to Andrey Zaichenko in the big blind. The Russian made the call and then check-called a bet on the {8-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop. Both players then checked the {J-Spades} turn and Zaichenko led out for 5,000 on the {9-Spades} river. Volpe called but mucked when Zaichenko rolled over the {9-Clubs}{q-Clubs} for trips.

In the very next hand, Nacho Barbero raised to 5,000 from middle position and received calls from Zaichenko and Doyle Brunson, who were in the small and big blind respectively. When the flop fell {5-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{j-Spades}, Zaichenko bet, Brunson raised and Barbero got out of the way. Zaichenko made the call and then checked the {2-Spades} turn.

Brunson bet, Zaichenko woke up with a check-raise to 10,000 and Brunson made the call. Zaichenko then led out on the {A-Diamonds} river and seemed a little unsettled when Brunson raised. The Russian made the call nonetheless and was left shaking his head when Brunson rolled over the {a-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a rivered two pair. Zaichenko showed the {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} and then sent his hand to the muck.

Yitzhaki Over Ivey

Level 7

Pot-Limit Omaha

Four limped to see a flop come {6-Hearts}{A-Spades}{7-Clubs}, and when checked to Phil Ivey bet 4,000 from early position and only Roman Yitzhaki called from the cutoff seat. The turn was the {7-Diamonds}, and this time Ivey bet 10,000. Yitzhaki thought about 15 seconds, then called.

The river was the {4-Clubs}, and both players checked. Ivey started to table his hand, but Yitzhaki first showed his {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{6-Spades}{2-Spades} and Ivey mucked.

Ohel Heads South

Level 7

Pot-Limit Omaha

Rory Mathews opened for 2,500 from early position and received a call from Randy Ohel in middle position. Daniel Harmetz then three-bet to 11,700 from the button, the small blind folded and Cole South four-bet the size of the pot, making it an additional 29,200. Mathews quickly folded and then Ohel, who was short, thought for about a minute before calling off for 24,200.

Harmetz folded and Ohel was excited. "I'm getting a good price now," he exclaimed.

Ohel: {9-Spades}{7-Spades}{8-Clubs}{q-Clubs}
South: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

The {3-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{q-Spades} flop pair Ohel's queen, but he needed some more help to overcome South's aces. The {9-Clubs} turn allowed him to do just that by giving him two pair, but the {4-Spades} river counterfeited him by giving South aces and fours. With that, Ohel exited the tournament area.

Clements Loses Battle of Hastings

Level 7
Brian Hastings
Brian Hastings

Pot-Limit Omaha

A small PLO skirmish to report in which Brian Hastings and Scott Clements were the primary combatants.

Four limped to see a flop come {7-Spades}{4-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, and all four checked. The turn brought the {J-Clubs}. It checked to Hastings in early position who bet 3,700, and it folded back to Clements sitting on Hastings's right who called the bet.

The {A-Hearts} fell on fifth street. Clements checked, and Hastings took the opening to fire 11,500. Clements thought for a beat, then called. "Full house," said Hastings, showing {A-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{2-Hearts}, and Clements mucked.
