Event #55: The $50,000 Poker Players' Championship

Day 3 Completed

Nguyen Leads After Day 3; Duhamel, Ly, and Hennigan Survive

Level 16
Don Nguyen
Don Nguyen

Day 3 of The $50,000 Poker Players' Championship is in the books, and leading the remaining 26 players is Don Nguyen. Nguyen was the only player to bag over two million chips, and is one of only eight players who will enter the penultimate day with a seven-figure stack. Joining him in the millionaire club are Mike Gorodinsky, Minh Ly, Michael Glick, John Hennigan, David Benyamine, Troy Burkholder, and Jonathan Duhamel.

Also surviving the day were notables Matthew Ashton, George Danzer, Bryn Kenney, Huck Seed, Greg Mueller, Joe Hachem, Gary Benson, and a host of others. You can find full chip counts below, along with the Day 4 table and seat draw.

Seventy-eight players started the day, which means exactly two-thirds of the players hit the rail today. Doyle Brunson's elimination may have been the biggest, since he had several side bets that could've netted him up to $800,000. Unfortunately for Texas Dolly, he was eliminated in a hand of seven-card stud against Ofir Mor, where Mor made aces up. Brunson had two pair and a gut-shot straight draw heading into seventh street, but was unable to make trips or a straight.

Jared Bleznick and Jason Mercier, two of the players with bets against Dolly, also hit the rail, along with Jean "Prince" Gaspard, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, David Oppenheim, Scott Bohlman, Jason Gray, Roman Yitzhaki, Paul Volpe, Tom Koral, and Justin Bonomo.

Play will resume on Wednesday at 2 p.m. PDT. Be sure to join us then as the tournament plays down to an official final table of eight players. Until then, good night from Sin City!

One More Hand!

Level 16

2-7 Triple Draw

After getting crippled in a 2-7 Triple Draw hand against Minh Ly and Don Nguyen, where-in Ly cold-called a three-bet before the first draw then took the pot down with a bet after the second draw, Juanda tripled on the final hand of the night.

Juanda moved all in from late position, Huck Seed called on the button, and Minh Ly called in the small blind. Ly drew two, Juanda and Seed both drew two, and all three players checked.

On the second draw, all three players drew two, and Ly bet out. Seed called.

Juanda stood pat on the final draw, Ly and Seed both took one, and Juanda lifted his hand off of the felt so that John Hennigan could see {j-}{8-}{7-}{6-}{4-}.

"If this doesn't win," Juanda told him. "I am quitting."

Ly and Seed both checked, and Juanda fanned his hand on the felt. Seed showed an ace-high low, Ly a pair of deuces, and Juanda tripled up.

"One more hand!" Juanda begged the tournament director.

Chiu Can't Make It Through Day 3

2-7 Triple Draw

Bryn Kenney raised from early position and David Chiu called off from the hijack. The rest of the players folded and both players proceeded to take one on each draw. Before they looked at the last one, they tabled their cards.

Chiu: {3-}{4-}{7-}{8-}
Kenney: {2-}{3-}{4-}{5-}

It was anyone's pot, but Chiu asked that Kenney show first so he knew what he had to beat. Kenney obliged and flipped over the {8-Diamonds}. It was bad news for Chiu, who was drawing dead. He tabled the {10-Hearts} to complete his hand and then took his leave from the tournament with less than ten minutes left in the night.

Is Kenney Rolled Up?

Level 16

Stud-8

Justin Smith: {x-}{x-} / {a-Spades}{k-Hearts} (FOLD)
Bryn Kenney: {x-}{x-} / {q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{7-Hearts} / {x-}
David Chiu: {x-}{x-} / {a-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{k-Spades} / {x-}

Max Pescatori brought it in with a six, Smith completed, and Kenney raised. Chiu cold-called, and the action folded back to Smith, who called as well. On fourth street, Smith and Kenney checked, Chiu bet, Smith called, and Kenney check-raised. Only Chiu called.

Chiu check-called bets on fifth and sixth, then checked again on seventh. Kenney fired out a final bet, and Chiu went deep into the tank.

"You got rolled up queens?" Chiu asked, before finally calling.

"I got rolled up queens," Kenney responded, showing {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}{4-Hearts}.

Chiu tabled {7-Spades}{7-Clubs} for trip sevens, then mucked his other card.

Ly Straightens Out Mor

Level 16

Stud-8

We saw Ofir Mor standing at his table and made our way over to discover that he was all in against Minh Ly. We're not sure when the money went in, but here are the cards were saw in front of each player.

Mor: {a-Hearts}{8-Spades} / {8-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades} / {2-Hearts}
Ly: {3-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{6-}{7-}{9-Spades}{X-} (Not in order as cards had been jumbled)

Ly had made a straight to put an end to Mor's 2013 WSOP $50,000 Poker Players' Championship.

Ly Takes Two Off Seed

Level 16

Limit Hold'em

From under the gun, Minh Ly raised before action folded to Huck Seed in the big blind. Seed called, and the flop came down {J-Spades}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. Seed checked, Ly bet, and Seed called.

The turn was the {7-Clubs}, and both players checked to see the {6-Clubs} land on the river. Seed led with a bet, and Ly raised. Seed thought for a minute, then folded, and Ly won the pot.

On the next hand, action folded to Seed in the small blind. He raised, and Ly called from the big blind. The flop came down {Q-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}, and Seed bet out. Ly raised, and See folded.

Seven Spades Up

Level 16

Stud-8

David Chiu: {x-}{x-} / {2-Spades}{k-Clubs} (FOLD)
Gary Benson: {x-}{x-} / {q-Spades}{j-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} / {x-}
Max Pescatori: {x-}{x-} / {4-Spades}{3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{3-Clubs} / {x-}

After pitching two downcards to the seven players at Table 353, the dealer then dealt seven spades face up, the {10-Spades}, {4-Spades}, {6-Spades}, {8-Spades}, {3-Spades}, {2-Spades}, and {q-Spades}. At this point, the players at the table - who have well over a hundred years of playing under their belts collectively - went nuts. None of them had seen such a thing occur.

When things calmed down, Chiu brought it in, Benyamine completed, and both Pescatori and Chiu called.

Chiu checked on fourth street, Benyamine bet, and only Pescatori called. Benyamine bet enough to put himself all in on fifth, and Pescatori called.

Benyamine: {q-Hearts}{2-Hearts}
Pescatori: {a-Clubs}{4-Hearts}

Benyamine's hand improve with a {2-Hearts} on seventh, giving him a full house, and Pescatori flipped over a {6-Diamonds}. The two chopped the pot.
