Obst Delivers the Final Blow to Duhamel

Level 14 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Jonathan Duhamel in earlier WSOP action.
Jonathan Duhamel in earlier WSOP action.

On fourth street, 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Jonathan Duhamel bet showing a pair of sixes and James Obst called him. Duhamel then bet 5,000 on fifth street, Obst raised, and Duhamel called off.

Duhamel: {a-Spades}{k-Spades} / {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} / {4-Clubs}
Obst: {5-Spades}{2-Hearts} / {a-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades} / {7-Hearts}

Duhamel got it in with sixes, which was ahead of Obst's fives. Unfortunately for him, he failed to improve while Obst made sevens and fives with a 7-5-3-2-A low. Obst scooped and Duhamel was eliminated from the tournament.

Martin Hits a Straight

Level 14 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

We picked up the action on fourth street when George Danzer bet and Jesse Martin called. The action repeated itself until Martin got the remainder of his chips in on sixth.

Martin: {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts} / {10-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} / {Q-Hearts}
Danzer: {a-Clubs}{3-Hearts} / {3-Clubs}{3-Spades}{2-Spades}{7-Diamonds} / {8-Clubs}

Martin got it in with just sevens, which was way behind Danzer's trip threes. Fortunately for Martin, he caught a queen on the river to make a straight. Danzer failed to fill up, but he did make a low on seventh to lay claim to the low half of the pot.

Brunson Gets Excited

Level 14 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

George Danzer completed with the {J-Spades} and Todd Brunson raised showing the {A-Diamonds}. Brian "Trigger" Twete then called with his {A-Clubs}, Danzer came along, and it was three-way action to fourth street.

Twete checked, as did Danzer, and then both of them called a bet of 2,500 from Brunson. On fifth, Brunson paired his ace and promptly bet 5,000, Twete folded, and Danzer called. Danzer then called a bet on sixth before folding to a dark bet on seventh.

Danzer: {x-}{x-} / {j-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} / {x-} fold
Brunson: {x-}{x-} / {a-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{a-Spades}{3-Spades} / {x-}
Twete: {x-}{x-} / {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} fold

"Yeah," a sarcastically excited Brunson bellowed while standing and raising his hands up in mock celebration. "I finally beat him!"

Indeed he did.

Monnette Gives It Up on Seventh

Level 14 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

We picked up the action on fourth street when John Monnette check-called a bet of 2,500 from James Obst. Monnette proceeded to check-call bets of 5,000 on both fifth and sixth streets, but then check-folded on seventh.

Obst: {x-}{x-} / {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} / {x-}
Monnette: {x-}{x-} / {10-Spades}{4-Spades}{3-Clubs}{9-Clubs} / {x-} fold

Bilokur vs. Tryba

Level 14 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

We picked up the action on fourth street when Chris Tryba bet 2,500 with aces showing and Alex Bilokur called with two low cards. David Singer got out of the way and it was heads-up action to fifth street, which saw Tryba check. Bilokur bet 5,000, Tryba check-raised to 10,000, and Bilokur called.

Bilokur then called a bet on sixth and watched Tryba bet seventh. Bilokur raised all in for 8,300, and Tryba called off the 1,300 he had behind.

David Singer: {x-}{x-} / {7-Spades}{j-Spades} fold
Tryba: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}{10-Spades}{7-Clubs} / {3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
Bilokur: {3-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} / {3-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}

Bilokur held two pair with an 8-7-4-3-2 low, but Tryba had a better 7-6-3-2-A low. It was a chop, and both players stayed alive... for now.

Tryba Can't Get There

Level 13 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Chris Tryba brought it in, and Tom Koral meant to complete but didn't put in enough chips. No worries, though, as Vladimir Schemelev went on to complete. Tryba called, Koral raised, and Schemelev called. Tryba opted for a raise, and before long it was capped at 10,000.

Tryba then bet 2,000 on fourth, both his opponents called, and Tryba bet again on fifth. Schemelev raised, Koral folded, and Tryba called. Tryba check-called a bet on sixth and headed to seventh.

Tryba: {x-}{x-} / {2-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} / {x-}
Koral: {x-}{x-} / {5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} fold
Schemelev: {x-}{x-} / {8-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{k-Spades} / {x-}

Tryba threw up his hands on seventh, and it was obvious he had missed. He checked, Schemelev bet nearly all of what he had remaining, and a frustrated Tryba folded his hand.

Ivey Falls to Two Kings

Level 13 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

We saw Phil Ivey get up from Table 361 and begin to exit the tournament area, which led us to believe that he had been eliminated. By the time we made our way over, the dealer had scooped up all the cards, but Ivey had in fact been eliminated.

Though the action escaped us, we do know that it was at the hands of 1996 World Series of Poker Main Event champ Huck Seed. When asked what happened, the perpetually relaxed Seed simply responded, "Two kings. I started with two kings."

Obviously Ivey couldn't beat it and his run here in Event #38: $10,000 Seven-Card Stud Hi-Low Championship has come to an end.
