Humberto Brenes Off to Hot Start

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Humberto Brenes
Humberto Brenes

Humberto Brenes is sitting with a comfortable stack of 95,000 and with his cash in this event has four already for this series. He started off the WSOP with a 77th place finish in Event #3: $1,000 Pot Limit Omaha and followed that up with a 233rd place finish in Event #4: $1,000 No Limit Hold 'Em. The very next day he was cashing in Event #6: $1,500 No Limit Hold 'Em Shootout and has now added a cash in this event to bring his lifetime total of WSOP cashes to 76. This is good for 4th all time behind only Phil Hellmuth (101), Eric Seidel (81), and Men Nguyen (79).

His total earnings this far in WSOP events is $2,273,071 and he has two bracelets to his name.

Big Names, Big Stacks

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Plenty of the big names have decent stacks here as the field continues to be whittled away.

Maria Ho is doing well for herself and now has 118,000 chips, while Matt Salsberg is also in the six-figure club with 107,000.

Humberto Brenes, Andrew "LuckyChewy" Lichtenberger and Rhys Jones are all only a blind steal away from topping 100,000, too.

Collins Doubles Through Kessler

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

Phil Collins, who finished fifth in the 2011 WSOP Main Event, has doubled through Allen Kessler.

The action folded around to Collins in the small blind and he moved all-in for 7,900 chips with {9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. Kessler asked for a count, but halfway through the dealer counting Kessler called with {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}.

A {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{10-Hearts} flop kept Kessler's hand best, but the {8-Spades} on the turn flipped the hand on its head and handed Collins the advantage. The {A-Hearts} on the river was a blank as far as this hand was concerned and Collins doubled to 17,000.

Thanks For Coming

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

It is game over for the following poker players. They're obviously disappointed for not progressing further, but getting this far is an amazing achievement and one rewarded with $4,630.

Up and Down

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

We just noticed one of the bigger stacks in the room and it belongs to Matt Newcombe, who has pretty much 300,000 in chips. Wang Cheng was there not that long ago, but he has since dropped to 180,000. The latest hand saw him with {A-Spades}{10-Spades} versus {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} and both suited aces had some sweat as the board ran out {K-Spades}{8-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{K-Hearts}.

Julian Thomas lost pocket tens versus {A-}{Q-} and has been cut in half.
