Obst Does What Obst Does

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

In a two-bet pot, James Obst and Lars Gronning came to fourth street where Obst bet and Gronning called. Gronning's board paired with fours on fifth and he led out, earning call from Obst. Gronning then fired on sixth and seventh again, but Obst called him down.

"You win," Gronning said but he wasn't mucking his hand. Obst was waiting for what would happen and Gronning then continued.

"Alright, pair of fours," he said, exposing his hole cards.

"No good," Obst said, turning up his hand to reveal that he scooped the pot with a pair of sevens.

Lars Gronning: {10-}{9-}{2-} / {4-Hearts}{J-Spades}{4-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}
James Obst: {7-Spades}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades} / {7-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{6-Spades}

Jordan Siegel Bubbles the 2018 Stud Championship

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Jordan Siegel
Jordan Siegel

Jordan Siegel was all in on third for a dust and four other players had a shot at knocking him out. James Obst reduced the hand to heads-up when he hit a pair of sixes on fourth street.

Jordan Siegel: {10-Hearts}{4-Spades} / {10-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}
James Obst: {5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} / {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}

Siegel had split tens and was in good shape but Obst's hand rolled out {5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} / {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{K-Spades}{J-Hearts} / {4-Hearts}. He hit two pair and Siegel sweated his river card but he finished unimproved with {10-Hearts}{4-Spades} / {10-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} / {Q-Clubs}.

Siegel bowed out in 14th place and the rest of the field was guaranteed at least $14,910.

Juicy Sixth Street Does It for Grapenthien

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Michael McKenna completed with the {A-Spades} in the door and Yaniv Birman called with a trey. Bring-in Matt Grapenthein joined them to fourth street where McKenna fired with ace-four suited. Both of his rivals called and Grapenthien hit a pair of sixes on fifth.

Grapes led out but both McKenna and Birman stuck around for sixth street. The dealer gave McKenna pair of fives, then shipped Birman pair of kings and topped it all when he dealt Grapenthien another six for open trips.

Grapenthien naturally fired and two quick folds followed.

Michael McKenna: {X-}{X-} / {A-Spades}{4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{5-Spades} - fold
Yaniv Birman: {X-}{X-} / {3-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{K-Spades} - fold
Matt Grapenthien: {X-}{X-} / {2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}

Martin Takes a Pot from Obst

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Jesse Martin: {x-}{x-}/{a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}/{x-}
James Obst: {x-}{x-}/{a-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{9-Spades}/{x-}

James Obst completed and called a raise from Jesse Martin. Jesse bet on fourth street and Obst called.

Obst checked on fifth and called a bet from Martin. Martin was first to act on sixth street and bet once more. Obst called and then called another bet on seventh.

Martin revealed the {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{j-Clubs} and Obst mucked.

McKenna Spikes a Miracle Ace

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Michael McKenna
Michael McKenna

Michael McKenna was short-stacked but he found aces and tried to spin it up. Unfortunately for him, Nicholas Seiken was dealt trip tens and McKenna's tournament life was on the edge of a cliff.

Michael McKenna: {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}/{3-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Nicholas Seiken: {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}/{10-Clubs}{J-Hearts}

McKenna, however, hit the {A-Diamonds} on fifth street and Seiken jumped out of his chair, cursing.

McKenna eventually filled up, hitting another trey on the river and doubled through his rival.
