Level 26 : 30,000/60,000, 0 ante
Chase Steely
Chase Steely

Phil Galfond raised and Chase Steeley called. Galfond announced pot on a {9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop and Steely moved all in.

"That's not good," said Galfond, calling and tabling {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}{7-Spades}{2-Spades}.

Steely showed {a-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}

The turn {3-Spades} gave Steely a set of threes, but Galfond a wheel. The river was the {k-Hearts} and Steely was eliminated. He takes home $50,086.

The remaining seven players are now going on a 60-minute dinner break.

Galfond Chops Twice to Survive

Level 26 : 30,000/60,000, 0 ante
Phil Galfond
Phil Galfond

Phil Galfond potted from middle position and got action from Ali Abduljabbar and small blind Michael McKenna. The flop came {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and Galfond piled for 215,000. Abduljabbar called and McKenna mucked {k-}{k-}.

Phil Galfond: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{5-Hearts}
Ali Abduljabbar: {a-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Spades}

The {3-Clubs} gave Abduljabbar two pair and the nut low but the {q-Spades} river made aces up for Galfond.

A few hands later, Marco Johnson raised to 120,000 early and was called by McKenna and Galfond, who was in the big blind. Galfond led for pot on {j-Spades}{6-Clubs}{9-Spades} and only McKenna continued. Galfond put the rest in on the {8-Clubs} turn.

"I have it," McKenna announced, snap-calling and showing {q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for the nuts.

Galfond had {k-Spades}{8-Spades}{3-Hearts}{4-Clubs} but he got the {a-Clubs} on the river to make a low and chop.

Abduljabbar Moving Up the Counts

Level 26 : 30,000/60,000, 0 ante

Ali Abduljabbar raised to 125,000 and Chase Steely defended his big blind. The flop {10-Spades}{q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} was checked by both players. The turn was the {6-Spades}. Steely bet 150,000 and Abduljabbar called. The river was the {k-Hearts}. Steely bet 200,000 and Abduljabbar called.

"King-queen," said Steely, showing {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}.

Abduljabbar showed {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} for a rivered straight and took down the pot.

Doing Some Gambling

Level 25 : 25,000/50,000, 0 ante

Chase Steely called in the small blind and then called a raise to 125,000 from Michael McKenna in the big. They both checked the flop to a board of {9-Hearts}{j-Spades}{3-Hearts}{7-Clubs}. Steely bet 175,000 and McKenna called. Both checked the {k-Spades} river.

McKenna showed {a-Spades}{7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for a pair of sevens but it was enough.

"Now, that's gambling," someone else at the table said.

Baker Agonizes Over His Decision

Level 25 : 25,000/50,000, 0 ante

Chad Power raised to 120,000 and David "ODB" Baker called. Ali Abduljabbar then raised to 530,000. Power folded and Baker made the call.

The flop came {5-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and Abduljabbar instantly moved all in for 735,000. Baker leaned back in his chair and put his hands behind his head. He asked for a count, and then separated the amount he needed to call with to see what he would be left with.

As the $10,000 Stud Hi-Lo players wandered back to their seats, both Frank Kassela and Matt Glantz shouted over their encouragement, oblivious to the big decision that Baker faced; elbows on the table, fingers in his ears.

"Just one more minute, guys," he said, and a short while later the clock was called on him. The seconds ticked down and eventually his hand was declared dead.
