Boivin and Polk Off to Early Leads

Level 1 : 200/300, 0 ante

There are a couple of marquee matchups over on Table 418 with Doug Polk making his return to the felt for the first time in what seems to be forever. Polk is facing off against 4x bracelet winner Joe Cada while Chance Kornuth and Thomas Boivin are duking it out on the opposite side of the table.

Boivin raised to 700 on the button and Kornuth called to see a flop of {q-Hearts}{j-Spades}{5-Hearts}. Kornuth check-called a bet of 500 from Boivin and the {q-Clubs} hit the turn. Kornuth led out for 700 this time and Boivin called.

The river brought the {a-Hearts} which shut down Kornuth as he tapped the table this time. Boivin made a large bet of 4,000 and Kornuth tossed his cards to the muck.

Wolff Defeats Li

Level 1 : 200/300, 0 ante

George Wolff has become the first player to win his play-in match after defeating Yingui Li. It was a result of two big pots that saw Li's stack reduced to zero.

In the first hand, Wolff opened and called a three-bet from 800 to 2,700 and Wolff called. On the {a-Spades}{9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop, Li continued for 1,700 and picked up a call before firing another 7,000 on the {7-Diamonds} turn. Wolff reluctantly called and Li then bet the {8-Clubs} river for 20,000. This time, Wolff instantly called and Li showed {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for turned two pair.

Wolff had that beat with {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} for rivered two pair.

Soon after, both players flopped trips eights and Wolff had the best of it with {k-}{8-} versus {10-}{8-}, even filling up to a full house.

Danchev Rivers the Straight

Level 1 : 200/300, 0 ante

With 18,000 in the middle and the completed board showing {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{6-Spades}{k-Spades}{8-Diamonds}, Dimitar Danchev bet 15,000 and Matthew Schreiber called. Danchev rolled over {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a ten-high straight and that won the pot.

Guilbert Takes on Ferguson

Level 1 : 200/300, 0 ante

In one of the match ups with two well-known players, Johan Guilbert called a Chris Ferguson raise to 800. Both players opted to check down the board of {6-Spades}{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} and Guilbert announced ace-ten before rolling over the {a-Spades}{10-Spades}. Ferguson had that beat with the {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}.

Other nearby match ups include Alex Foxen versus Dario Sammartino and Juan Pardo vs Danny Tang.

Kempe Takes Down an Early Pot from Yu

Level 1 : 200/300, 0 ante
Rainer Kempe
Rainer Kempe

Rainer Kempe raised to 700 on the button and Benjamin Yu three-bet to 3,500. Kempe called and the two players saw a flop of {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. Yu led out for 2,300 and Kempe stuck around to see the {7-Clubs} on the turn.

Yu tossed in another bet of 10,000 and Kempe still called. The {k-Spades} paired the board on the river and Yu finally shut down with a check. Kempe checked it back and Yu turned over {q-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for a missed flush draw. Kempe tabled {a-Diamonds}{8-Spades} for two pair and collected the first pot of their match.
