Justin Bonomo

Welcome to Day 2 of Event #36: $3,000 Shootout where a field of 313 players has been whittled down to just 40, and there is more whittling to do as this tournament plays down to a final table today.

Play will be situated around ten four-handed tables here at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, with the winner of each advancing to a ten-handed final table and in with a chance of winning $207,193.

Notables in the field of 40 include three-time bracelet winner Justin Bonomo who took down the $10,000 Heads-up Championship and the $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop last year.

Others including Byron Kaverman, Taylor Paur, Alexandru Papazian, Andrew Lichtenberger, Kristen Bicknell, James Obst, Eric Froehlich, and Jeremy Wien all made it through to today.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for continued updates from the latest bracelet event here at the 50th annual WSOP.

Fast Start for Bonomo

Level 16 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Justin Bonomo took down one of the first hands of the day when he called down Nicholas Riali with middle pair. He then received a walk in the big blind and showed {a-}{a-}. Following that, Mateusz Rypulak opened on the button and Bonomo three-bet shoved all in from the small blind. Rypulak quickly called and the cards were on their backs.

Justin Bonomo: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Mateusz Rypulak: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Although it was a coin flip preflop, Bonomo quickly dashed any hopes that Rypulak had of winning this hand. The flop came {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{3-Spades} and Bonomo made quad tens to leave Rypulak drawing dead. The {k-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} runout did not matter and Rypulak was the first player to collect a min-cash.

Chalot Shoves on Zhang

Level 16 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Picking up the action on the turn with the board reading {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Spades}, Benjamin Chalot was first to act from the small blind. Chalot bet 40,000 into a pot of around 60,000 and Weiyi Zhang called on the button.

The {3-Hearts} paired the board on the river and Chalot announced all in. Zhang had around 75,000 still in front of him and he dipped into the tank for around three minutes. Zhang eventually sent his cards to the muck and Chalot collected the pot.
