Smith Doubles Through Heath

Level 11 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

Dan Smith was all in for 135,000 and was called by Ben Heath. The American was hoping to halt the progress of the young British player who had found himself among the chip leaders after the early levels.

Dan Smith: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Ben Heath: {a-Hearts}{8-Clubs}

Smith looked in a strong position to double, and he did so with the board coming {q-Spades}{4-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} to move him up the chip counts. He remains short with less than 20 big blinds.

Short Stacks Staying Alive

Level 11 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

At one table, Rainer Kempe was all in for 98,000 after just re-entering not long ago. Chance Kornuth was his opponent and the two players were flipping. Kempe held {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} against Kornuth's {k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and the board of {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{6-Clubs} allowed Kempe to double up.

Not far away, Nick Petrangelo was also all in for 114,000 and was called by Cary Katz. On a board of {q-}{q-}{10-}{10-}, Petrangelo was cheering for a three. Indeed the {3-Clubs} hit the river and Petrangelo's eight-high with {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} was good enough to beat Katz's seven-high with {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}.

Seidel Forces Out Yurasov

Level 11 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

Erik Seidel raised pre-flop and Dmitry Yurasov defended his big blind. Yurasov check-called 50,000 on the {5-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{4-Diamonds} flop and the pair then checked the {10-Diamonds} turn.

The river was the {2-Spades}. Earlier after check-calling two streets against Joe McKeehen, Yurasov bet out on the river. However this time he checked and Seidel bet 80,000. Yurasov folded allowing eight-time bracelet winner Seidel to take down the pot.

Bonomo Triples Up

Level 11 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

Justin Bonomo moved all in for 74,000 from under the gun. Joe Cada was in the next position and just called. Rainer Kempe was next to him and raised to 250,000. It folded back to Cada who used two time extensions before folding.

Justin Bonomo: {j-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Rainer Kempe: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

There was a nine on the flop of {9-Spades}{k-Hearts}{2-Hearts} giving Bonomo a lead. The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and river {5-Spades} meaning he tripled up thanks to the dead money from Cada that was in the pot.

Negreanu Doubles Through Lichtenberger

Level 11 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

Barry Hutter raised to 35,000 from the hijack and Daniel Negreanu moved all in for 300,000 in the small blind. Andrew Lichtenberger called from the big blind and Hutter quickly folded.

Daniel Negreanu: {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Andrew Lichtenberger: {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}

Not only did Negreanu hold the larger pocket pair, but he also had both of the suits covered. The board ran out {7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and Negreanu scored a double up with very little sweat.

Gonzales Up to a Million

Level 11 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

On a {k-Clubs}{2-Spades}{a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{a-Spades} board Matthew Gonzales checked to Sam Grafton who used a time extension before betting 190,000.

Gonzales used one of his own before calling. Grafton showed {6-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for a missed flush draw and Gonzales won the pot with {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for trip aces.

First Hellmuth Blowup of the Summer Comes Courtesy of Kornuth

Level 11 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

Chance Kornuth opened from middle position and Phil Hellmuth defended from the big blind. The flop fell {k-Hearts}{4-Spades}{4-Clubs} and Hellmuth check-called a bet of 22,000 from Kornuth.

Hellmuth checked in the dark before the {j-Spades} hit the turn. Kornuth fired another 45,000 and Hellmuth called to see the {3-Spades} on the river. Hellmuth checked once more and Kornuth counted out a bet of 200,000. Hellmuth snapped him off and Kornuth tabled {q-Spades}{2-Spades} for a flush. Hellmuth stood up from his seat and flashed the {k-Diamonds} before mucking his cards.

As Hellmuth mumbled some curse words to himself, Kornuth finally chimed in. "I usually blame the dealer too when that happens."

"I'm not blaming the dealer," Hellmuth replied, "it's just fucking bullshit. I had you trapped. You didn't deserve to win the pot."

"There's one thing I've learned in my poker career, Phil," Kornuth shot back. "Something that obviously you haven't. You never deserve anything."

Seidel Eliminated

Level 11 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

Bryn Kenney opened from the button and Erik Seidel defended his big blind. Seidel checked a {8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} flop to Kenney who bet 43,000.

Seidel then check-raised all in for 290,000 and Kenney, who covered his opponent by less than 50,000, quickly called.

Bryn Kenney: {8-Hearts}{6-Spades}
Erik Seidel: {5-Hearts}{7-Spades}

Seidel had flopped a pair and a flush draw, but was up against the two pair of Kenney. The turn {a-Clubs} and river {2-Hearts} bricked and Seidel pushed his chips towards his opponent and left the tournament area.

Haxton Done for Good

Level 11 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Isaac Haxton
Isaac Haxton

The action folded to Sam Grafton on the button who opted to just limp in. Matthew Gonzales also called from the small blind and Isaac Haxton shipped all in for a little over 200,000 in the big blind. Grafton shoved all in over the top and Gonzales quickly folded.

Grafton: {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}
Haxton: {a-Clubs}{6-Spades}

The flop of {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{2-Hearts} was not what Haxton was looking for and the {4-Diamonds} on the turn left him drawing dead to the {5-Clubs} on the river. This was Haxton's second bullet and he has officially been eliminated from the tournament.
