Sharp Tops for Pillai

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Action folded to Shankar Pillai on the button and he made it 23,000 to go. Alexandru Papazian defended his big blind, and the flop came {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}.

Papazian checked and Pillai checked back. The turn was the {9-Spades} and Papazian announced another check. Pillai bet 25,000 this time and Papazian called.

The dealer completed the board with the {7-Clubs} on the river and Papazian checked for a third time. Pillai slid forward a bet of 100,000 and Papazian thought for a moment before putting in a call.

Pillai tabled {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} for queens full of aces, and Papazian flashed {a-Clubs}{7-Spades} for queens full of sevens before mucking his cards and paying the bet.

Tom Cannuli
Tom Cannuli

Michael Gagliano made it 25,000 on the button, Tom Cannuli three-bet to 80,000 out of the small blind, and Gagliano eyed Cannuli's stack.

Cannuli started the hand with around 370,000 and Gagliano announced he was all in. Cannuli called right away.

Cannuli: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Gagliano: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Cannuli was a huge favorite to scoop the pot but the {4-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} shifted the odds in Gagliano's favor. Cannuli failed to improve on the {3-Diamonds} turn and {7-Spades} river and Gagliano eliminated him in 19th place.

"A Down-Bet Huh?"

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante

Upeshka De Silva raised to 145,000 from under the gun, with 1,000 left behind. Alexandru Papazian was in the hijack and asked for a count before deciding to call.

The flop came {k-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{3-Clubs} and De Silva looked back at the tournament clock, showing 19 players, before deciding to check. Papazian bet 10,000 and De Silva said with a straight face, "a down-bet huh?" before tossing in his last chip in the middle to call.

De Silva: {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}
Papazian: {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

De Silva admitted he was sweating the pay jump, but tabled a set of threes, looking good to double. Papazian had a gut-shot straight draw. The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and the river was the {q-Clubs} to send the pot to De Silva.

Tommy Nguyen raised to 23,000 from the second position and Nikita Luther three-bet shoved for 105,000 from the cutoff. Nguyen looked her up.

Luther: {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}
Nguyen: {k-Spades}{j-Clubs}

The {5-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop pushed Luther closer to the double, and while the {k-Clubs} gave Nguyen a sweat, the {3-Diamonds} river locked it for Luther.

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Bob Slezak
Bob Slezak

Alexandru Papazian opened to 20,000 from middle position and Kevin Gerhart three-bet to 60,000 from the hijack. Bob Slezak was in the small blind and four-bet shoved for 202,000. Papazian folded and Gerhart asked for a count before deciding to call.

Slezak: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Gerhart: {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}

The dealer fanned a flop of {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}{8-Spades} and Gerhart paired his ace to take the lead. The turn was the {4-Diamonds}, leaving just two outs for Slezak to survive. The river was the {7-Spades} and Slezak was eliminated in 21st place.

"Kids today," smirked Papazian.

"You only ever have three outs there," Slezak said to Gerhart.

"I was getting three to one," replied Gerhart.

Meanwhile, Philip Tom busted on another table, bringing the field down to 19.
