Deutsch Chooses Safety First

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Marc Foggin fired 63,000 into about 90,000 on the turn reading {10-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and Stephen Deutsch called on his left.

The {q-Clubs} river filled the backdoor flush draw and Foggin checked. Deutsch paused for a moment and then tapped the felt, saying, "Super nitty check."

Deutsch showed {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} for a flopped set and Foggin flashed what looked like {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}.

Jeff Dumas opened to 13,000 and John Devisscher defended his big blind. Devisscher check-called a continuation bet on the {10-Spades}{q-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop.

The turn was a {k-Clubs} and Devisscher check-called again, this time for 25,000. Finally the river was the {9-Clubs} and after another check, Dumas barreled for 30,000, which Devisscher called. He mucked when he saw the bad news, Dumas had {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs} in the hole for second pair on the flop that had improved to a straight.

Jasper Meijer van Putten
Jasper Meijer van Putten

Facing a raise to 13,000 and a call, Jasper Meijer van Putten jammed for 313,000 and one of the players behind him asked for a count, then folded. The initial raiser folded and the cold-caller snap-called with {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}.

Van Putten was in bad shape with the {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} but spiked the {q-Spades} in the window. the rest of the board came {9-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and van Putten doubled.

Since coming back from the color up break, the field was trimmed down from 1,341 to 1,317 and the money bubble is coming closer and closer.

Hicks with a Barry Greenstein Special to Stay in the Main Event

Level 15 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Eric Hicks opened from early position and Robin Hegele three-bet from the blinds enough to put Hicks all in. He called and the cards were turned over.

Robin Hegele: {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Eric Hicks: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}

The flop {7-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{k-Diamonds} gave Hegele a set of jacks and pushed Hicks towards the exit with the bubble looming. The turn was the {3-Spades} but the river {a-Spades} wrenched Hicks back from the edge of disaster and double up his 97,000 stack.
