Lewis Gets Paid with Aces

Level 20 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Picking up the action on the turn with the board reading {8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{6-Hearts}{j-Hearts}, the action was checked to Romain Lewis in early position. Lewis bet 64,000 into a pot of around 120,000 and his opponent called.

The river was the {2-Diamonds} and the big blind checked again. Lewis dropped in another bet of 250,000 and his opponent paid him off. Lewis tabled {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} and his opponent was unable to beat it.

"I could beat ace-jack," he pointed out as his cards hit the muck.

Graham Leads River on Katz

Level 20 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Cary Katz raised to 41,000 from under the gun and action folded back to Luke Graham who defended his big blind.

The flop fell {4-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and Graham checked. Katz made a continuation-bet of 39,000 and Graham called. The turn came {6-Clubs} and Graham checked once more to Katz, who continued again for 50,000. Graham flinched slightly as he picked up chips and then proceeded to call.

The river came {5-Spades} and Graham led out for 100,000.

"Gahhh!" said Katz. "Terrible card!" he continued as he leaned back in his chair for a moment. He then leaned forward and used his hand to push the cards to the center of the table, one at a time to fold and give up the pot.

Bellande Still Calls and Busts

Level 20 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Jean-Robert Bellande
Jean-Robert Bellande

Jean-Robert Bellande raised to 45,000 from the middle position and action folded to Dario Marinelli in the big blind who three-bet to 82,000. Bellande four-bet to 240,000 and Marinelli called.

The flop came {q-}{2-}{3-} with one diamond and two hearts, Marinelli bet 85,000 and Bellande made the call.

The turn was the {9-Clubs}, Marinelli continued with a bet of 125,000 and Bellande called again.

The river completed the board with the {4-Spades}, Marinelli shoved and Bellande contemplated his options.

Bellande got up from his chair, started packing his stuff up: "Well, I guess this is it. I guess you have a set of queens, but I have to call cause I have aces..." And then made the call for his last 500,000 or so with {a-}{a-} to see he was right as Marinelli held {q-}{q-} indeed for the set to eliminate him.

Romaine Eliminates a Player

Level 20 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

William Romaine called a shove from an opponent holding {q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} with Romaine holding {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}.

"Right in the window," said someone at the table when a nine appeared, but there was an ace right behind it on a {9-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Spades}{q-Diamonds} runout and Romaine sent his opponent to the rail.

Bertrand Grospellier shoved all in from middle position for his last 75,000 and action folded around to Eran Aydin who wasted no time announcing a call.

Bertrand Grospellier: {a-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Eran Aydin: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

Aydin was in great shape to knock the short-stacked "ElkY" out of the 2019 Main Event. The board ran out {k-Clubs}{2-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{10-Spades}, having Grospellier drawing dead by the turn as Aydin added his newly acquired chips to his stack.

Bryan Campanello
Bryan Campanello

The player in mid-position raised to 40,000 and Bryan Campanello shoved on the button. Zhen Cai asked for a count in the small blind and the dealer confirmed Campanello had 263,000 behind. Cai called and the initial raiser folded.

Bryan Campanello: {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}
Zhen Cai: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

The board ran out {8-Spades}{a-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for Cai to flop a set while Campanello found a pair of aces. The Day 1a chip leader even improved to two pair on the river, but it wasn't good enough to keep him alive in the Main Event.
