Engel Short, Rubino Into Contention

Level 24

Limit Omaha 8 or Better

John Rubino has been running up his stack in the last level and was approaching the one-million chip mark.

In a recent pot with Ari Engel, Engel raised in early position and was three-bet in the cutoff by Rubino. Engel called.

Engel then check-called all three streets on a {k-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} {3-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} runout.

Rubino showed {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} for a six-high straight and the nut low, while Engel could only show {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{2-Spades} to chop the low and take a quarter of the pot.

Laplante Chips Up Through Tardif

Level 24

Limit Omaha 8 or Better

Ryan Laplante just took down a critical pot courtesy of Patrick Tardif.

They had each committed 125,000 chips before the river on a board of {j-Spades}{5-Hearts}{a-Spades}{7-Diamonds}.

Laplante bet the river {6-Clubs}, and Tardif went into the tank. Eventually he folded, saying "I think I'm supposed to fold three pair on the turn".

Laplante dragged the pot and showed his opponent the {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}.

Pot-Limit Omaha 8 or Better

Just before the break, Daniel Negreanu took down a large pot from Dana Kellstrom.

On a turn board of {7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}, Kellstrom checked to Negreanu from the big blind, and Negreanu bet the size of the pot (165,000) from under the gun.

Kellstrom gave it some thought, then folded and showed {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}{4-}{5-} for aces with a low draw. Negreanu showed {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{k-} for aces with a flush draw and the same low draw.

With the win, Negreanu is now back among the bigger stacks in the room with 700,000.

Salazar Quarters Levy

Level 23
Hernan Salazar
Hernan Salazar

With {q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} on the board, David Levy and Hernan Salazar were standing over one of the biggest pots of the day. Levy was all-in and Salazar had called.

Levy showed {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and Salazar had {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. When the dust settled Salazar took the high pot with the nut flush against the second nuts, and the two players split the low pot with their ace-two.

Salazar is now well about the 1 million mark after eliminating Yonatan Smith just prior to this hand.
