Fairclough Doubles Through Fernandez

Level 18 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Javier Fernandez was busy buying off all the T-1,000 chips for the upcoming colour up and then looked up the shove by David Fairclough. Fernandez had the {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} and was trailing against the {a-Spades}{7-Clubs} of Fairclough and got there on the {q-Clubs}{8-Spades}{6-Clubs} flop. Nothing changed on the {3-Spades} turn but Fairclough got there on the {a-Diamonds} river.

Level 18 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

In a battle of button versus big blind, the chips went in with Thomas Petzner as the massive favourite in the showdown.

Button: {a-}{k-}
Thomas Petzner: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}

The board ran out {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} and Petzner scored the knockout with aces full, having locked up the elimination on the turn already.

Adam Sneaks Into the Money

Level 18 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Three regulars of a small poker room on the island of Saint Martin reached the money and all ended up on the same table. Cedric Adam and Christophe Enrici had made the money with 5,000 and 3,000 chips respectively.

Adam then jammed and ended up in the profit with {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} versus {a-Spades}{q-Clubs} after he found not one but two jacks on the {j-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades}{j-Clubs}{5-Spades} board. Entitled to the full ante, he increased his stack from 5,000 to 35,000.

The Bubble Has Burst

Level 18 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

In the first hand on the money bubble, more than ten players were eliminated. One of these casualties was in a three-way all-in that saw Andrew Pressler prevail with {a-}{q-} versus {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts} and the {a-Spades}{10-Hearts} of the shortest stack.

The board ran out {q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and the field was reduced by one. If that was indeed the money bubble hand is impossible to tell but the announcement came upon completion of the first hand, causing cheers all around the Brasilia room.

Hand For Hand Mode Activated

Level 17 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

The dealers were already told to stop the action after their current hand during which the number of remaining hopefuls dropped by almost a dozen. Ultimately, the clock changed to 890 contenders in the mix and the top 881 spots will get paid. Hand-for-hand mode is now underway on all tables in the Brasilia room.

Vanderpoorten Jumps Above the Average

Level 17 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante

Following a raise and a shove, Ryan Vanderpoorten jammed for more than 300,000 and the initial raiser folded pocket tens.

Vanderpoorten was well ahead with {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} versus {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds} but fell behind on the {q-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{9-Hearts} flop. The {8-Clubs} turn would have given the pocket tens a straight while Vanderpoorten spiked the {a-Hearts} river for the superior set.

George McBride

After he paid the big blind viral sensation George McBride, who can be seen talking about his WSOP journey in an interview with PokerNews yesterday, looked down at {j-Spades}{j-Hearts} and 15,000 in chips.

He went all-in and a player with a bigger stack called holding {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}.

The {6-Clubs} came on the flop to send McBride packing.

He leaves this tournament without a second cash, but has gained a lot of fans in the poker community for his earlier performance in this event.
