Big swings and plenty of action highlighted Day 2 of Event #35: $2,500 Mixed Big Bet, where Canadian Drew Scott holds the lead among the final 17 players.
Scott bagged 1,340,000 chips after mounting a charge late in the night thanks to a pair of big hands against Schuyler Thornton. First, Scott earned three-quarters of a Big O pot to avoid elimination. Just over an hour later, Scott doubled through Thornton with aces up. He now holds a narrow lead over Galen Hall, with plenty of other notable names giving chase.
A total of six bracelet winners remain in the final 17, including Rami Boukai, Keith Lehr, Scott Bohlman, Renan Bruschi and Day 1 chip leader Richard Ashby.

The 281 total entries on Day 1 created a prize pool of $625,225, and players reached the top 43 on level 16 to earn a minimum of $4,000. Many familiar names found the money, including Josh Arieh, Dario Sammartino, Frank Kassela, Brian Rast and Jerry Wong.
Among the notables that fell short on Day 2 were Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, Jared Bleznick, Ryan Reiss and Yuri Dzivielevski.
The final 17 will return at 1:00 p.m. local time, with 60-minute levels until a winner is determined. Saturday’s champion will receive $144,338, along with the gold bracelet.

Ryan Moriarty opened from the button and Schuyler Thornton raised to 131,000 from the small blind. Drew Scott called and Moriarty got out of the way. Both players drew one.
Thornton shoved after the draw and Scott called without much hesitation.
"Nice hand," Thornton said as he showed for the missed flush draw. Scott showed
to secure the double with aces and kings as the tournament enters the final stage of the Day 2.

Christopher Smith and Matt Vengrin faced off in a battle of the blinds, and Vengrin raised all in after the first draw. Smith quickly called putting Vengrin at risk.

Schuyler Thornton raised to 30,000 from middle position and Drew Scott called from the cutoff before Naoya Kihara came along from the button. All three players drew one card.
After the draw, Thornton fired 75,000 and Scott called. Kihara got out of the way and Thornton turned over to take the pot. Scott mucked the losing hand.
