Taylor and Diebold Chip Up

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Chris Lee check-called a bet worth 6,000 by Esther Taylor on the {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} board before then leading the {10-Spades} river for 15,000 while in the big blind. Taylor mulled it over for a short while and called to only get shown the {a-Spades}{6-Hearts}, which she had beat holding the {k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}.

One table over, a short-stacked Ben Diebold got it in with the {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{8-Spades} against an even shorter-stacked opponent who tabled the {10-Spades}{9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. The board ran out {q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{a-Spades}{a-Hearts} and that gave a minor boost to Diebold.

McCormick Screams For a Spade

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Tom McCormick
Tom McCormick

The exuberant Tom McCormick could be heard across the Paris ballroom with his tournament life at stake on a turn board of {10-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{a-Clubs}{j-Spades}.

His opponent held {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for broadway with a full house redraw, while McCormick had {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}.

McCormick chanted loudly for a spade, then screamed "SPAAAAAAAADE" as the {4-Spades} came on the river, fulfilling his request and keeping him alive in the tournament.

Soverel Vanishes at the End of Day 1

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

The 640-entry strong field has already been cut into more than half with fewer than 300 players still in contention.

Among the latest casualties was also Sam Soverel, who got it in with a dominated {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} versus {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}. There were no shenanigans on the {k-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} board and that spelled the end for Soverel, who was applauded by Ryan Goindoo and Chris Fraser as he departed the banter-filled table.

Pretty Flop Locks Up Double for Beauprez

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

John Beauprez had a portion of his short stack in already and the rest of it then went into the middle on a flop of {q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{9-Spades} when Jeff Madsen bet the pot.

John Beauprez: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}
Jeff Madsen: {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{j-Spades}{9-Hearts}

The {7-Diamonds} turn and {4-Spades} kept Beauprez around as Madsen quickly matched his last chips behind before they proceeded to the next hand.

Late Night Counts Part II

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Coleman Chips Up Further

Level 10 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Not long ago, David Coleman had sent David van Rask to the rail and he wound up scoring another knockout soon after. His {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flopped the top set on a {7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop to knock out a player that had just been moved to the table moments earlier.

Jaros Wins A Big One From Cabrera

Level 9 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Picking action up on the turn with 65,000 already in the pot and a board of {8-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{4-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}, David Cabrera checked to Patrik Jaros, who bet the size of the pot.

Cabrera chose to call for approximately a third of his remaining stack.

The river brought the {a-Diamonds}, and both players opted to check.

"Straight," said Jaros, who revealed {k-Spades}{q-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Spades}, for indeed, a rivered straight. Cabrera looked frustrated to see his opponent get there at the end and tossed his cards into the muck.

Gonzales Vanishes After Big Clash With Fourie

Level 9 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Matthew Gonzales
Matthew Gonzales

With 35,500 in the middle to the {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{9-Hearts} flop, Matthew Gonzales and Conrad Fourie got their chips in and it was Fourie as the player at risk in a significant pot.

Conrad Fourie: {k-Spades}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades}
Matthew Gonzales: {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

Gonzales was drawing slim but found some hope with the {6-Hearts} turn. However, the {9-Spades} river was of no help as Fourie doubled for 164,500. Gonzales was left with around 30,000 in chips and disappeared shortly thereafter.
