The largest Pot-Limit Omaha Championship event in World Series of Poker history continues Sunday with an already record-setting field set to grow even more before registration ends at the start of play.
Event #69: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship (8-handed) has already seen 641 players take their shot at WSOP PLO glory, with 264 of them returning for Day 2, led by amongst others, WSOP Player of the Year contender Scott Seiver (425,000) and defending champion Tommy Le (400,000) who start the day among the biggest stacks in the room.
With registration open until cards are in the air at 2 p.m. PDT in the Paris Ballroom, several other notables could potentially enter the field with 24 big blinds, such as Phil Hellmuth, who was denied bracelet number 17 heads-up Saturday in the $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout.
Others we might see hop in at the last minute could be PLO guru Phil Galfond, and three and four-time bracelet winners respectively, Nick Schulman and Ben Yu, who are known to be fond of late-registering events.
Ten more levels of play are scheduled, with a dinner break after level 16 at approximately 8:30 p.m. local time.
While last year’s Day 2 field went deep into the money and was whittled down to just 18 players by the end of play, expect that number to be notably higher with nearly double the field size this year as last year’s 344 entries, though the money will likely be reached midway to late in the day.
PokerNews will have all the action and details of the massive prize pool once announced, so keep it right here for your information as arguably the most prestigious Pot-Limit Omaha tournament in the world continues its march toward a champion here at the 53rd World Series of Poker in its new home at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas.
More than 30 players have already entered before the end of the late registration period and this requires some balancing, which will ensure a slight delay for the start of Day 2. An initial batch of new entries will be provided soon and the action is expected to get underway in a few minutes from now.
