Gluszko Gets Near Full Double Up Through Friedman

Level 23

Limit Hold'em

Picking action up on the turn with several bets in the middle already and the board reading {6-Spades}{k-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}, Perry Friedman bet from the small blind and was raised by Tomasz Gluszko on the button.

Friedman gave his decision some thought, then opted to call.

On the {j-Hearts} river, Friedman check-called another bet from Glusko who was down to approximately 100,000. Gluszko then rolled over {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} for top set and Friedman mucked his hand.

Daniel Ratigan only had a couple of bets behind when he got it all in on fifth with Kevin Gerhart and Roberto Marin.

Ratigan turned a low draw, giving him chances at both sides of the pot. On seventh, he hit two pair, but Marin had a better two pair, leaving Ratigan heading to the payout window after working the short stack for quite some time.

Kristan Lord: {j-Spades}{10-Clubs}/{10-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}/{8-Diamonds}

Mike Wattel completed with his split queens and Kristan Lord made the call with split tens.

On fourth, Lord drilled a hidden two pair. Wattel bet and Lord made the call.

On fifth, Wattel bet again before seeing Lord put in the raise. Wattel three-bet all in for only 5,000 more, which Lord called.

"Got anything?" asked Wattel.

Lord had two pair, which was ahead of the pair of queens Wattel held.

Lord drilled a full house on sixth, leaving Wattel drawing dead. Wattel's seventh was never exposed as he didn't want to look at it before heading to the payout line.

On sixth, Lord bet to put Wang all in and she called. Lord held a pair of queens, while Wang had just queen-high with a gunshot straight draw.

Wang wouldn't hit her draw on seventh, and she was eliminated in 14th place.

Greg Mascio paired his queens on fourth and bet, David Bach decided to call.

Bach paired his ten on sixth and bet when checked to, Mascio again made the call.

Seventh dealt, Mascio checked one last time, and Bach decided to bet. Mascio put in the call.

Bach had all sorts of draws that turned into two pair, but Mascio had the better two pair for the win.

Cody Espeseth Eliminated in 16th Place ($6,835); Joseph Thomas Eliminated in 15th Place ($7,978)

Cody Espeseth {9-}{3-}/{a-}{5-}{4-}{k-}/{3-}
Joseph Thomas: {9-}{8-}/{a-}{2-}{7-}{a-}/{6-}
Lawrence Brandt: {7-}{7-}/{5-}{j-}{3-}{2-}/{6-}

Immediately following a hand that saw Lawrence Brandt put Joseph Thomas on a short stack of just over 110,000, Thomas and an even shorter stacked Cody Espeseth got their last chips in on third street against Brandt, who chose to gamble a bit, starting with a pair of sevens with a five against Espeseth's nine-three-one and Thomas' nine-eight-one.

But as is Razz, much can change in the span of seven cards.

By fifth street, Espeseth was ahead with a nine-five, Thomas had a nine-eight, and Brandt had just three cards to a seven.

But sixth and seventh street hit Brandt perfectly as he pulled a deuce and a six to make his seven, while neither Thomas nor Espeseth could improve enough to catch him, creating a double elimination to drop the field to 14, while sending Brandt's stack over two million.

Gerhart Plays a Big Razz Hand

Kevin Gerhart

Razz

Tomasz Gluszko: {x-}{x-}/{j-}{6-}{a-}{8-}/{x-}
Kevin Gerhart: {x-}{x-}/{5-}{6-}{2-}{8-}/{x-}

Just before the break, two players were involved in a razz hand that played into the break.

Kevin Gerhart completed showing a five and Tomasz Gluszko called with a jack from the bring-in.

Both players hit a six on fourth street and Gerhart bet, Gluszko called again.

On fifth, Gerhart hit a deuce, Gluszko an ace. Action repeated with Gerhart betting and Gluszko called.

Players each found an eight on sixth street. Gerhart slowed down with a check. Gluszko took the initiative with a bet, but Gerhart had plans, he check-raised. Gluszko made the call.

Seventh dealt, Gerhart bet again. Gluszko went deep into the tank, for about two minutes.

"I'm not raising," said Gluszko.

"What can you beat?" asked Gerhart. "What three cards could I have under here?"

After a bit longer, Gluszko decided to let it go.

"Maybe I shouldn't have bet there. How did you know I would bet?" asked Gluszko.

"I play Razz in a weird way," responded Gerhart. "Most people would think I paired up there."

Gerhart took down the pot without a showdown as he built his stack back to healthy via a well-timed big pot.

Wang's Decision to Continue Pays Off

Razz

Lena Wang: {a-}{9-}{3-}/{7-}{q-}{5-}{9-}
joseph Thomas: {a-}{8-}{2-}/{8-}{4-}{4-}{9-}
Yarron Bendor: {x-}{x-}/{6-}{6-}{j-} - folded fifth street

After Lena Wang completed, there was a bit of confusion regarding Yarron Bendor's intention to raise or call the bet based on how he had placed his chips forward and when he had said "raise", as Joseph Thomas had put forward calling chips for the value of the original completion of 30,000 as Bendor had placed his chips.

The floor ruled that his bet would be just a call. Thomas's call stood as well and the trio went to fourth street.

Thomas caught best and bet, sending Wang into a brief tank as she was starting to get short-stacked. Ultimately she decided to continue and called, as did Bendor.

On fifth street, Wang took the betting lead. Bendor folded picking up a jack and Thomas called.

Wang bet sixth street and Thomas called. On seventh street, both players checked.

Wang showed a nine-seven, which pipped Thomas' nine-eight to earn a healthy pot just before break.
