Hasas Gets Away from Flush

Level 3 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

A big pot was brewing on Table #643 in the Silver section.

With 24,000 in the middle on the {10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} completed board. Elanit Hasas checked in the big blind before Alain Benzaken bet 25,000 from late position.

"You have aces, right?" quizzed Hasas repeatedly.

"You know I have a big flush," she added.

Hasas eventually laid it down but when asked again, her opponent denied that he had aces.

He first flicked over the {3-Hearts} which was then followed by the {3-Spades} to show that he had turned a full house.

Hasas was happy with the fold and still has above starting stack.

Level 2 : Blinds 200/300, 300 ante

Players are now on the second 20-minute break of the day. Play will resume shortly with blinds moving to 200/400/400.

The action has been heating up on Day 1c with Magnus Carlsen going for a bluff, Wes Cutshall scoring flush over flush, and Main Event Champion Hossein Ensan taking an early hit to his stack.

Petit Gets a Fold from Sylvia

Level 2 : Blinds 200/300, 300 ante

Rosalie Petit started the action with a raise to 700 and got called by Jesse Sylvia on the button and the big blind.

The flop brought {k-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{7-Spades} and it checked to Sylvia who bet 800, only called by Petit.

The {7-Diamonds} turn went check-check and a {4-Spades} hit the river. Petit bet 2,200 and after a minute of thinking, Sylvia sent his cards into the muck.

Set Over Set Leaves Matusow Steaming

Level 2 : Blinds 200/300, 300 ante

Five players, including Mike Matusow, Jake Schwartz, and Mark Pett, saw a flop of {6-Spades}{j-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. Mark Pett, under the gun, fired out 1,500 and only Matusow and a player on the button called.

The turn came the {9-Hearts} and Pett bet another 3,200. Matusow called while the button got out of the way.

Pett continued betting on the {3-Spades} river, tossing in 8,000. Matusow studied the situation for a moment before calling. Pett flipped over {j-Hearts}{j-Spades} for top set.

"You see how good I am," Matusow said as he showed {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} for a set of sixes and slammed his remaining chips on the table.

Matusow remained sitting in his seat as the rest of the field went on break stewing over the hand. "My instincts were screaming. I was never raising. I almost folded," he said.

Latuf Off to a Flyer on Day 1C

Level 2 : Blinds 200/300, 300 ante

With 20,000 in the pot on a {6-Spades}{2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades} board, the early-position player put out a bet of 17,500.

Michael Latuf, sitting in the small blind, then put in a raise of 70,000, which effectively put his opponent all in.

The player in early position, who had about 40,000 more behind, thought for less than a minute before sliding his cards into the muck.

Berkey Takes One to Steinbo

Level 2 : Blinds 200/300, 300 ante

In a three-way raised pot, the flop showed {5-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} when the big blind and Matt Berkey checked to Christian Steinbo in the hijack who bet 1,500. Only Berkey stayed in the hand.

The turn revealed the {a-Clubs} and this time Berkey led out for 3,000 which Steinbo called. On the {10-Spades} river, both players tanked before checking and Berkey flipped over {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds} for top pair which was enough to make Steinbo muck and win the pot.
