Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Sam Abernathy
Sam Abernathy

There were four players in on the {a-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop and the action checked through to the turn {5-Diamonds}.

A middle position player bet 3,200 and Samantha Abernathy clicked it up to 8,500.

Her opponent folded and showed {k-}{k-} pocket kings as she dragged an early pot.

Phil Hellmuth's World Series of Poker Entrance Met with a Chorus of Boos

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Phil Hellmuth Entrance
Phil Hellmuth Entrance

Phil Hellmuth made his initial appearance in the 2022 World Series of Poker Main Event much like in year's past — decked out in a costume. But his arrival on Thursday wasn't met with the usual excitement from the crowd, nor was his entrance as extravagant as in previous years.

The "Poker Brat" showed up for the Day 2abc session in a Darth Vader costume and a few cheered while a number of players inside the Bally's ballroom booed. Most seemed disinterested in the spectacle.

Hastings Can't Shake Zufic

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante

Ivan Zufic raised it up from under the gun and picked up two callers including Brian Hastings in the cutoff. The flop came {10-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{3-Spades} and Zufic led out with a bet of 3,200. The player in middle position called and Hastings raised to 10,500. Zufic called and the other player got out of the way.

The turn brought the {2-Hearts} and both players checked to the {10-Hearts} on the river. Zufic led out with a bet of 27,000 this time and Hastings slid his cards to the muck.

Cada Eliminated on River

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Joe Cada
Joe Cada

Joe Cada opened to 2,000 from middle position and the cutoff called. Matthew Cloepfil then moved all in on the button for approximately 20,000, and Farid Barkhordar got his chips in from the big blind. Cada called for his 45,900 chips, and the cutoff folded.

Matthew Cloepfil: {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Joe Cada: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Farid Barkhordar: {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}

The {j-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop kept Cada ahead to the {7-Clubs} turn, but the {10-Diamonds} spiked the river to give Barkhordar a set, eliminating Cloepfil and the 2009 Main Event champ.

Martin Finds a Double

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Kevin Martin
Kevin Martin

Kevin Martin was seen all in for his stack of roughly 14,000 and the cards were turned face up.

Kevin Martin: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

Martin was looking to avoid the dreaded ace as the flop came {k-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{4-Diamonds}.

"That's a good start," Martin said, making top set.

The {2-Hearts} hit the turn which meant Martin had the checkmark and the {3-Hearts} river was just a formality as he collected his double up.

Frerichs Takes the Rest From Hellmuth

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

A few minutes after losing that big pot to Shawn Smith, Phil Hellmuth stuck the rest of his 6,000 in the middle and was up against Jeff Frerichs.

Phil Hellmuth: {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Jeff Frerichs: {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}

"If I lose this I can say I won zero pots this Main Event," Hellmuth said heading to the {7-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{10-Spades} flop.

Hellmuth made a pair of kings and improved to two pair on the {j-Clubs} turn, but the {6-Hearts} on the river gave Frerichs a set and sent the "Poker Brat" to the rail.

D'Ambrosio Takes One Down

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Jimmy D'Ambrosio
Jimmy D'Ambrosio

Jimmy D'Ambrosio opened to 2,600 from the cutoff and small blind, Lukas Hafner, reraised to 9,500. D'Ambrosio called and the dealer fanned the flop {9-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. Hafner bet 10,000 and D'Ambrosio snap called.

The {6-Diamonds} slowed things down and they both checked.

A {6-Clubs} showed up on the river and Hafner bet 12,000. D'Ambrosio responded by raising to 30,000 and it sent Hafner in to the tank before finally deciding to fold.
