Fortunate Double-Up for Loeser

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Manig Loeser
Manig Loeser

Ben Diebold opened to 2,400 from an early position to get called by Eric Smidinger from one seat over and Terry Giles in the cutoff. Manig Loeser then pushed for 18,600 in the big blind with Diebold jamming over the top for another 6,000 or so. Smidinger folded and Giles did the same as Loeser's dominated pocket pair was revealed.

Manig Loeser: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Ben Diebold: {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}

The {k-Spades}{q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} flop gave Diebold a set but Loeser had outs with a gutshot. Sure enough, the {10-Clubs} fell on the turn and the {4-Clubs} river ensured a fortunate double-up for Loeser while Diebold was left with fumes.

Speranza Scores a Knockout

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

With the {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs} of Gianluca Speranza already exposed on a completed board of {7-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, a short stack piled his chips into the middle and was about to head out of the tournament area. Speranza asked for the cards to be revealed and the {3-Spades}{3-Hearts} for a dominated pair came to light before the pot was pushed to the Italian.

Smidinger On the Rise

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Not long ago, Eric Smidinger had flopped top pair and an open-ender with {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} to get it in against an opponent with the {8-Spades}{6-Spades}. Both made the eight-high straight on the {7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades} turn when the remainder went in and the {9-Hearts} river ensured the split pot.

The very same player then vanished as Smidinger's stack skyrocketed well above the average on a table that barely contains any of those that started in the first level of the day.

Messick Scores a Knockout

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

With one shorter stack already at risk and a side pot of 30,000 to the {9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{6-Spades} turn, Jonathan Woof checked to Ryan Messick and the table big stack made it 22,000 to go. "What do you have?" his sole active opponent sighed before he settled on a fold.

Messick tabled the {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} for nines full and the all-in player was drawing dead with the {7-Spades}{7-Hearts} to make the {4-Hearts} river a formality.

The player in the nine seat was trying to rub off some of the run good, to which Messick joked "at least give me a longer massage". One hand later, the very same player opened to 2,400. Messick, now in the big blind, three-bet to 9,600 and took down the next pot.

In the meanwhile, Angelina Rich was eliminated from one table over to reduce the field further.

Budde Takes from Jozoff

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Michael Budde was in position in a heads-up pot against Michael Jozoff on a board of {4-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}. Budde moved all in for about 45,000 with around the same amount in the middle and Jozoff went contemplated a call.

"I don't think I've ever ahead," Jozoff said. "If you have a king with a heart then that's really bad. There's no shot I'm ahead."

Jozoff eventually folded and Budde showed {a-Spades}{q-Clubs} for two pair.

Eslami Flops Well; Improves Even Further

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Ali Eslami
Ali Eslami

Four ways to a {8-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop, Ali Eslami in the cutoff called a bet worth 8,000 by the hijack and the other two players in the hand sent their cards into the muck. The {q-Diamonds} on the turn was checked through and the {j-Diamonds} fell on the river. Following a check by the hijack, Eslami bet 15,000 and his opponent sigh-called before immediately asking if there was any flush about.

Eslami rolled over the {8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for flopped two pair that had indeed improved to a flush and that was good enough to win the pot.

Shock Among the Bigger Stacks

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Towards the end of the previous level, Nicholas Shock had sent an opponent to the rail when he overbet the river of a ten-high board and revealed {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs} for a king-high flush. His opponent could not get away from {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} and hit the rail.

Shock continued his hot run soon after the break when he raised to 3,000 and called the shove of a short stack for around 11,000.

His {k-Hearts}{6-Hearts} were up against {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} and the king came on the turn of a {a-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} board.

Cada Among the Late Entrants

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

While Chip Jett and Patrick Leonard have been eliminated recently, another WSOP stalwart has entered the fray. Former WSOP Main Event champion Joe Cada has been spotted in the field and sits just under the starting stack in pursuit of earning another WSOP cash and perhaps gold bracelet.

Laplante Fires Turn

Level 9 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

The small blind limped in and Ryan Laplante raised to 3,200 in the big blind. His opponent called.

The opponent checked on the flop of {5-Spades}{k-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and called a bet of 2,500 from Laplante. The opponent checked again on the {q-Clubs} turn and opted to fold when faced with a second barrel from Laplante.
