Runner Runner Ends Sternberg's Deep Run

Level 35 : Blinds 300,000/600,000, 600,000 ante

Jonah LaBranche raised under the gun to 1,200,000, the player to his direct left called and it folded around to Jason Sternberg in the big blind. Sternberg, very short-stacked, weighed up his options. He was contemplating for so long that the player to his right called the clock.

The tournament director arrived at the table and asked "Has he had a reasonable amount of time to make a decision?"

"I have," Sternberg answered on behalf of the table, putting his remaining one million chips into the middle.

The action on the side ended promptly as LaBranche bet the board 6Q4 for 800,000 prompting the remaining player in the hand to fold.

Jason Sternberg: KQ
Jonah LaBranche: K10

The turn came the 10 and the river came the 10. LaBranche's king high turned into trips by the river sending Sternberg home in brutal fashion.

"Misclick" Costs Devereux

Level 35 : Blinds 300,000/600,000, 600,000 ante

Tyler Brown raised under the gun to 1,200,000 and Gareth Devereux called in the hijack. Both players went to a board of 377. Brown continued for 900,000 and Devereux called.

The turn brought the 9 and Brown fired again, this time for 2,200,000. Devereux slid out a little over two stacks of lavenders amounting to 4,200,000, an illegal under-raise. It was ruled that the bet must be that of a minimum raise so Devereux put in an extra 200,000 to make up the difference. The action back on Brown, he went into the tank for a short while before he three-bet jammed on Devereux.

Devereux, frustrated at himself, admitted the flop raise was a "misclick" implying it was intended to just be a call for 2,200,000. Devereux's mistake not only cost him seeing a cheaper turn, but ultimately the pot as he laid the hand down.

Glantz Felted By Zuidema

Level 35 : Blinds 300,000/600,000, 600,000 ante
Matt Glantz
Matt Glantz

Brandon Zuidema opened to 1,200,000 from middle position before Matt Glantz moved all in for a little over 7,000,000 out of the big blind. Zuidema gave his decision some thought before making the call with the covering stack to put Glantz at risk.

Matt Glantz: 88
Brandon Zuidema: AJ

It was a coinflip and Glantz stayed ahead on the 332 flop. The A turn, however, vaulted Zuidema into the lead, leaving Glantz needing to hit a two outer to survive. The miracle was not to be, with the Q river ensuring Glantz will not be redeeming a seven-figure prize in the event this year.
