2023 World Series of Poker
Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better
Two-time defending champion Dan Cates was at risk in a heads-up pot against Daniel Negreanu on a board of K♠10♥3♦4♠.
Cates bet on the turn and Negreanu called. Cates then checked on the 5♥ river and Negreanu bet to put Cates all in. Cates called with his final few chips.
Negreanu showed A♣A♦9♠7♦ for a low as Cates showed Q♠J♥10x4♥ to win the high pot with two pair.
Omaha Hi-Lo
Daniel Negreanu raised in the cutoff and got three-bet by Brian Yoon on the button.
The flop came Q♥8♥A♠ and Negreanu check-called a bet from Yoon.
After the players checked the 5♠ turn, Negreanu bet the [9h river and got a call from Yoon.
negreanu showed down K♣Q♣Q♦2♦ for a set of queens, which was good for the win as Yoon mucked his hand.
No Limit Hold 'em
Action folded all the way to Julien Martini in the small blind who flat called for 2,000. Jeremy Ausmus was in the big blind and put in the raise to 8,000. Without thinking for too long, Martini put in the back-three-bet to 37,000. Ausmus got an idea of his count and made the call.
The 5♥6♥J♣ flop hit the felt and Martini down-bet 24,000. Ausmus again made the call in-position.
The turn brought a 9♠ and Martini went into the tank for a moment before putting out a hefty bet to the tune of 75,000. Ausmus then thought it over, did some accounting of his stack, and leaned over and looked at Martini's. Eventually after about two minutes in the tank he announced "All in". Martini snapped.
The cards hit their back.
Julien Martini: J♥J♠
Jeremy Ausmus: K♥Q♥
Ausmus turned a gutter to go with his flush draw and two overs. Martini was sitting pretty with his top set while waiting on the river. It landed the K♠ and although Ausmus hit top pair it wouldn't save him from a crippled stack going into the middle levels of day one.
No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw
Eli Elezra has become the first casualty of the day after he moved all in for 52,000 from middle position and was called by Matt Glantz in late position.
Elezra patted his hand and after some deliberation, Glantz opted to as well.
Elezra showed 10x8x7x5x4x, while Glantz showed a winning 9x8x5x3x2x.
"I played it like a genius," Glantz told PokerNews after the hand.
No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw
Yuval Bronshtein raised to 5,000 on the button and Philip Sternheimer called out of the small blind. Bronshtein drew two as Sternheimer drew one.
Sternheimer led out for 8,000 after the draw and Bronshtein laid it down.
No-Limit Hold'em
John Monnette raised from the cutoff and Joao Vieira and Alex Livingston called out of the blinds.
Action checked to Monnette on the 4♦A♠5♦ flop and he bet 7,000. Only Vieira called. Vieira checked on the 8♠ turn and Monnette checked back.
The 6♦ river completed the board and Vieira led out for 10,000. Monnette called, only to muck as Vieira showed A♦8♦ for aces up turned into the nut flush.
