Justin Zaki was down to just 22,500 and pushed all in from under the gun. A player in middle position just called and Agharzi Babayev reshoved all in from the small blind. The other player folded and the two remaining hands were tabled.
Justin Zaki: A♠A♥
Agharzi Babayev: Q♣Q♦
The flop came Q♠6♥4♥ with the queen in the window to give Babayev a set. The J♣ on the turn and the 6♣ on the river were no help to Zaki, who headed to the rail.
A player shoved preflop for a stack worth less than ten big blinds and it was called by Yuri Dzivielevski, a player in late position and Alex Kulev.
The flop revealed J♣4♣9♦ and Dzivielevski bet 10,000. It folded to Kulev who raised it to 23,500 and after some consideration, Dzivielevski shoved for a remaining stack around 40,000. Kulev snap called for the following showdown:
Initial player: Q♥4♥
Yuri Dzivielevski: 10♣8♣
Alex Kulev: K♥J♠
The turn and river bricked and Kulev took down the pot, eliminating two players in the process.
Action was picked up after the flop of 3♠J♠6♥, with the early position player having been all-in before the flop. After a quick check from the small blind, the middle position led out for 20,000. Kou Vang on the button raised to 100,000 as the big blind called all in for 64,000. The middle position shoved all in for 120,000 and received a call from Vang.
Early Position: 6x6x
Big Blind: 2♠4♠
Middle Position: Q♠Q♦
Kou Vang: 3♦3♣
The board ran out J♥5♥ as Vang scooped the entire pot to chip up and eliminate the three other players.
The action folded around to Nicholas Eykamp in the small blind who just limped in. Ryan Laplante raised to 12,000 in the big blind and Eykamp called.
The flop came A♠Q♦7♣ and Eykamp check-called a bet of 16,000 from Laplante. The 3♥ landed on the turn and Eykamp checked again. Laplante threw in a bet of 23,000 and Eykamp finally released his cards.
Philip Corion raised under the gun to 8,000 and it folded to the big blind who called.
The flop revealed 10♥5♠2♠ and the big blind check-called Corion for 7,500. The same action happened on the 7♠ turn, this time for 17,000.
A A♠ completed the board on the river and Corion sent a third barrel worth 28,000, putting his opponent deep into the tank. The latter ended up folding.
Julian Parmann raised to 8,000, and then got called by the button and by Harry Lodge in the big blind.
On the 2♦9♥6♣ flop, Parmann bet another 8,000. This time, only Lodge called. Then, the English player took the lead on the turn 9♠ betting 14,000. Parmann didn't let down and added the chips needed in the middle.
But his decision became tougher when Lodge bet 44,000 on the river, keeping only one chip of 1,000 in his hands. Focused on his posture, Lodge saw Parmann take a few seconds before folding.
Five-time bracelet winner and 1998 Main Event Champion Scotty Nguyen will miss the first half of the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) as the Vietnamese-American poker icon recovers from surgery.
Nguyen, always a fan-favorite of WSOP, took to Twitter earlier this week to announce he was undergoing surgery for slipping rib syndrome, a condition that can cause severe chest pain in addition to "a slipping, clicking, or popping sensation in the lower chest," according to an article published in Psychopharmacology Bulletin.
But it's not all over, baby. Nguyen tweeted today to let his fans know that the surgery was a success and that he hopes to recover in time for the second half of the WSOP.
