Azoulay Catches Fortunate River

Picking up the action on the turn, Jonathan Azoulay on the button was involved in a hand with Sam Soverel in the big blind. With the board reading 8♥J♦K♥2♦ Soverel checked. Azoulay counted out a bet of 17,000 only to see Soverel raise all in with the covering stack. Azoulay did not appear all that comfortable with the situation but did call off his remaining 107,000 to put himself at risk.

Soverel had turned two pair to leave Azoulay in rough shape. The at risk player was already packing up and getting ready to leave but the K♠ hit the felt on the river to improve Azoulay to trips and hand him the pot.

The 10♣ completed the board and both players checked. Kim showed K♦7♦ for sevens, but it was no good against Andrews 10♥8♥ for a rivered pair of tens and she dragged the pot.

Frank Funaro raised from the hijack to 5,500, Shannon Shorr three-bet to 16,500 and Funaro called.

Shorr continued on a flop of 7♣A♠9♣ for 6,000. Funaro called.

The 9♥ turn checked through to the 2♠ on the river. Shorr fired out for 10,000. Funaro remained in the tank but ultimately decided to call. Shorr tabled A♣A♦ for a turned full house to claim this pot.

Smith Finds a Call to Eliminate Huh

Picking up the action on the river, Elliot Smith in the big blind was involved in a hand with Seong Uk Huh on the button. With the board reading Q♥5♥Q♣A♣8♠ Smith checked and Huh responded by moving all in. That sent Smith deep into the tank as he engaged in some speech play with Huh in an attempt to gain some information. After some time a clock was called on Smith but before the floorman had begun the countdown, Smith made the call holding A♠7♣. Huh could only show 5♣3♣ for the pair turned into a bluff and was sent to the rail in the first level of the day.

Negreanu Puts a Beat on Silver

Nate Silver raised to 8,500 from the small blind and Daniel Negreanu called from the big blind.

Silver continued for a 6,500 bet on the 9♣6♥3♣ flop and Negreanu called.

Both players checked on the 7♦ turn and Silver checked again when the 3♥ river paired the board. Negreanu bet 12,000 and Silver quickly called and showed K♣K♠.

"That's a stupid beat," Negreanu said as he tabled K♦3♦ for trip threes.

"A king and I would have been gone," Negreanu added as he collected the pot.

Zhu Sends Tipping Packing

Yannick Schumacher opened to 5,000 from the cutoff before Yueqi Zhu three-bet to 13,000 on the button. James Tipping then moved all in for 39,000 out of the big blind, getting a quick fold from Schumacher. Zhu asked for a count, then thought for a little while before making the call with the covering stack to put Tipping at risk.

It was a flip but Zhu took a commanding lead on the 4♥J♣4♦ flop. No help came for Tipping on either the 6♠ turn or 2♠ river to send him to the rail early in the day.
