2023 World Series of Poker
Jason Mercier raised from early position to 8,000. The player on the button three-bet to 21,000 and the action was back on Mercier.
After approximately 20 seconds in the tank, Mercier responded with a four-bet to 57,000, earning a snap fold from his opponent.
George Holmes busted on one of the outer feature tables when his final 100k or so went in with king-queen, but he ran into ace-king for Bruno Soutavong. The best king held on a board of 5♥A♥8♠6♣Xx.
Three players created a pot of about 25,000 and the flop read K♣6♥5♠. Both Jan-Peter Jachtmann and Yueqi Zhu checked before the third player in the hand tossed 11,000 into the middle. Only Jachtmann called.
The 4♦ hit the turn and both players checked to see the 5♥ river.
Jachtmann threw a bet of 14,000 into the middle and his opponent called. Jachtmann tabled A♣K♦ and that was good as his opponent tossed his cards into the muck.
Benjamin Spragg was heads-up against Khamsy Bowles and had already shoved all in for his remaining stack on a 5♣9♣J♦A♦10♣ board.
Bowles called and Spragg showed 8♦7♦ for the baby straight and busted flush draw. Bowles held K♥Q♥ for Broadway and Spragg was eliminated.
Andrew Brown bet 18,000 from the button on a flop of 4♦Q♥4♥ and Greg Himmelbrand called in the hijack.
Both players checked the K♥ turn before Himmelbrand led out for 32,000 on the 8♣ river.
Brown went deep into the tank for a few minutes before he called and Himmelbrand turned over A♦K♦. Brown, though, showed A♠A♣ to win the pot.
On a heads-up flop of 4♥9♣9♥, there was already 75,000 in the pot when Lowell Kim bet 26,000 after a check from his opponent, Steven McKuin.
McKuin thought about it for a second then decided to make the call and the two went to the turn A♦ where he checked again.
Kim continued for 66,000 and McKuin was back in his thoughts for a good 30 seconds before he threw out chips to see the river 6♦
McKuin checked once more and KIm fired the third barrel for 147,000 and McKuin delved deep into the depths of his mind.
After several minutes of this, McKuin made the call and was then shown A♠K♥ by Kim for top two-pair. McKuin shook his head and mucked his hand as the massive pot of over 500,000 was pushed to Kim.
Pei Li opened to 8,000 from the hijack and was three-bet to 26,000 by Justin Shelton on the button. Action folded back around to Li, who wasted no time cutting out a four-bet to 81,000 and placing it in the middle.
Shelton quickly folded and Li collected the pot.
Former chip leader Julio Belluscio got involved in another pot on Day 3 of the Main Event. A board of 5♣9♦2♠2♦ was fanned out, with around 55,000 chips in the middle.
Belluscio checked from the big blind after which Michael Tweedlie made an overbet of 80,000 from early position. A third player quickly got out of the way before Belluscio confirmed the amount and made the call.
The Q♥ river then fell and Belluscio checked to Tweedlie. Tweedlie would make another massive bet when he shoved all in for 329,500 chips, a stack worth more than the current average.
Belluscio went over his options for a few minutes before ultimately sticking in the call. Tweedlie showed down 5♥5♦ for fives full of deuces, and Belluscio was forced to show his Q♠9♣ for two pair.
Belluscio had over one million not too long ago, but now is playing a stack worth just over 100,000 chips in the third level of Day 3.
