After just under 11 hours of play in Event #23: $1,500 SHOOTOUT No-Limit Hold'em at the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, just 102 players remain.
The day kicked off with all 960 players working towards a spot on Day 2 and being the last man or woman standing at their respective tables. Only 102 players won their tables and advanced to Day 2 from Day 1a. The last one standing on Day 3 will be awarded the top prize and the coveted WSOP gold bracelet.
Many players came and went, but some notable faces advanced to Day 2. Niall Farrell, Ran Koller, and Unibet sponsored pro Alexandre Reard were among some of those who advanced to Day 2. Three time WSOP bracelet winner David Pham also advanced to Day 2 after winning with two pair.
Many familiar faces came up short of Day 2 in this flight. Some notables include Ryan Riess, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Maria Ho and Olga Iermolcheva to name a few.
The first player to win advance was Jaskaran Brar, who took down his table only four hours into the day. Michael Lee was the last player to bag up a win at right around 11 p.m. local time.
Day 2 will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Horseshoe and will play until all tables are down to one player. There will be 15-minute breaks after every three levels and a 60-minute optional dinner break after Level 9.

With the longest battle and the final remaining table Michael Lee has defeated Michael Haygood to win his seat into Day 2.
Lee recalled the final hand for PokerNews:
Lee limped on the button and Haygood checked. The flop came out as QxJx9x containing a flush draw. Lee bet 8,000 and Haygood called.
The turn 7♣ prompted a bet from Lee for 16,000 and Haygood called again.
On the river Haygood moved all of his chips in for his last 30,000 and Lee made the call.
Michael Haygood: 6♥9♥

Haygood held two pair and Lee held the straight for the win.

In the second to last hand of Day 1, Lindsey McDougall was in the 8,000 big blind and had 3,000 behind.
Matthew Salsberg raised and forced McDougall all in.

The flop came 10♦6♦8♦ giving McDougall flush draw outs and Salsberg a sweat.
The 5♣ turn came and Salsberg was heard calling for "no diamond" and "black ten".
When the 7♠ river was drawn from the deck, Salsberg stook up congratulated McDougall on playing a "good game".
Salsberg was the second to last player of Day 1a to bag up his chips ready for Day 2.

Lindsey McDougall and Matthew Salsberg were battling it out to win their table and advance to Day 2.
In the final hand before the break, Lindsey McDougall was all in with 16,200 chips.

McDougall was ahead all the way as the flop came 6♣K♥6♥, despite a 10♠ on the turn, Salsberg couldn't get there on the A♣ river.

For the final hand the button moved all in preflop and Farrell made the call.
